Dillon Bates' Performance

I find it interesting those that blame the coaching as to these players being under-developed. I say that given their father (in this case) was a legend at UT and, to some degree, in the NFL. Why would Bill Bates put up with this?

There is no denying that the players development has lacked. I cant think of one player who actually progressed the entire time with the previous staff. During his entire tenure I never felt that BJ got everything from his team.

As far as Bill. Who knows what was said or done by him? Some don't voice their opinions like we do on the message board.

We don't know what Bill did or didn't put up with. I'd say that he loves the university too much to air out his grievances publicly, whatever they might be.

I think this has happened to more that just Bates. The used car salesman sold him on Brick by Brick but didn't tell him we didn't have any mortar to hold it all together.

So he injured a shoulder as an 18 year old freshman.....and now, here 4 full years later, he won’t get on the field beyond special teams at what has been a severe position of need for 2-3 years now. Lemme guess....you’re also one of the guys who blames KMac’s poor career, including a bad junior year in 2017, on him missing his senior year in high school in 2014?

Easy turbo, I was just making an observation about Bates, and I stick by it, he hasn't been the same player since he was injured during his freshman season.

As for KMac, my opinion was that he was very overrated coming out of high school as a DT. He probably was a better prospect on the offensive line than on defense.

Just my two cents.

This is exactly what I was thinking. When you can get in the field at all on O or D in the SEC as a true FR, then your future is usually very bright. Then comes an injury and he's relegated to basically scrub duty for the next 3 seasons.

Maybe it's mental shortcoming.
Maybe it's bad coaching.
Maybe it's incorrect ratings.

Heck, we cannot be sure. But the injury and yr of recover look like the tippimg pt in the young man's career to me.

It was like the first of the dominoes to fall against him. Something a sports writer may shed light (or BS) on in a couple or three years. I would think there is still some failings in the Jones era yet to be known.

I submit that the last Ut player to leave better than when he arrived was Crompton. Two regimes, no player development. Pruitt's best achievement this year for the program and for himself would be if one of the QB's made a significant leap forward in performance. For the sake of future recruiting this needs to happen.

Unfortunately, the fact that CJP brought in a GT tells me that he doesn't feel very good about that.

It’s called HEDGING YOUR BETS. Pruitt wants to win now and wasn’t going on faith. He hadn’t seen JG operate the new offense in any kind of simulated game like the O&W. It’s wrong to assume any decision has been made based on any depth moves.

This whole thread is Paralysis of Analysis.

They are still kids that got taken by a Con Man. All words no action and basically a zero coaching sideshow. More than enough fans bought into the Jones Circus, why would you not expect a 17 - 18 year old kid not buy into it.

Can't look back, we all make mistakes. Including the ones with easily impressionable minds.

Some people/fans want to drive their cars by looking solely at the their car's rear view mirror.
