You said certain players only blossom under good coaching - If Bates needs blossoming to crack the rotation then hes not talented enough.
Sorry to have to dumb it down for you.
Dillion was over rated because of dad he was just a average 3 star if not for his last name he would have never came here, go back and look at his film he wasn't nothing special that caught your eye.
This video of Butch laying the bricks should have been a clear sign for us. The dumb @$$ didn't even have any mortar for the brick he was laying. In your video, I like how the part of the brick that Butch initially tamps down into the mortar rises back up out of the mortar by the time he gets to the other edge. I'm not a mason, but that doesn't seem right. Kind of like many of his schemes, come to think of it.
Your argument falls apart because of 1 person Colton Jumper.Plausible argument, but it comes down to different strokes for different folks, imo. Some players are great at self motivation and pushing themselves. Other players only blossom under legitimate coaching. Certainly Bates had equal opportunity as any teammate, but does the fact he needed legitimate coaching really dismiss his physical talents. What comes natural to some does not come natural to others. Hard to argue Bates had bad teachers.
He was over rated. So was Dontavious Blair, Kongbo, and Khalil McKenzie.
In fairness, we had some damn good linebacker play when they had a line in front :AJ, Kirkland, Bitulu is coming around, thank coaching for colten Jumper being servicable.
I find it hard to believe that the recruiting services missed on all of them. The one thing they all have in common is being coached by the same merry band of idiots.

What have been the challenges that this young man has been unable to overcome to become a high level player? I've not heard anything specific over the last few years. Obviously as heralded as he was coming out of high school he was expected to start at some point in his career. Thanks for any info.
Just stop at Blair.
K-Mac was a 3 year starter. Or 2 and some change. And was drafted
Kongbo has started or contributed since he's been on campus.
Bates and Blair were non-factors completely...don't group them with Kongbo and Khalil
Id tend to agree with this although I wish otherwise. I think we all wanted Dillon to do very well because of his dads legacy, so we could continue that legacy.
You always look way faster when you can read the play at the snap and your first step is on a good angle to the ball. Staying healthy and good coaching help that process.
I agree he was NEVER the same after wing injured during his Freshman season.
