Did They Steal Nico's $?

The overwhelming fast majority of not only Vol fans, but the sports world in general, are questioning the timing of the hold out. Could it be as simple as Nico is damn near broke from people essentially stealing his money? Has he been bank rolling others or has he invested most of this money in safe long term/short term investments?

Has he maxed out traditional IRAs and Roth annually to the limit and maybe even safe guarded some with annuities (usually not good investments, but when you've maxed out, it's safe to guard against losses)?

Does he have any in even good ol fashioned CDs right now growing at 4-5% interest for the short term to grow principal amounts in the bank?

Sure, keep yourself a hefty amount of cash and have some fun. Drive something nice (affordable), pay cash for it, take some trips (he's worked hard and earned it), bought a house or townhome in Knoxville instead of renting to later keep as a source of cash flow or sell for a gain? These are just some very basic individual economic plans....

Is he just desperate and out of money because others have given him either no advice, or worse bad advice, or even worse just milking his cash?

Does make you wonder.....
Yeah, I'm sure a 20 year old kid went broke from spending his millions in NIL maxing out his IRA. 😂 Wtf

I think it's as simple as the father thinking he could secretly shop Nico around, get an offer higher than his current contract and then use that for leverage when the portal opens next week. There is a coaching brotherhood.

Dude, that's collusion. I think Nico's family would have grounds for a lawsuit if the coaches were sharing information.

Cost a lot to support all your friends and family.

And two million can disappear way faster than most think.
nico was paid a mil in HS to sign. 2 mil in 2023 to redshirt. 2 mil in 2024. final was supposed to be 2 mil (dad wanted to up it to 4 mil).... if they did not pay taxes then they are in deep do-do

No, brother, it doesn’t make me wonder at all. I don’t care. He gone and I’ll never have to try to pronounce his name again.

Agreed. Not to distract from the thread too much, but I wish there would have been like a "life skills" course required in high school. Personal finances, filing taxes, simple cooking, sewing, changing a tire and oil, simple carpentry, gardening, stuff like that. Home Ec, Shop, and Finance all in one basically.

Edit to add: Sort of a "fill in the gaps" course. Not everyone is taught these things at home. Like for me, I could do basic mechanics stuff but I didn't know how to cook until I moved away from home and had to teach myself. My mother was a "get out of my kitchen" type lol, so I just never learned until post-HS.
FCCLA is the classes now, exception no shop.

A family member teaches finance (taxes), cooking, sewing, gardening under the life skills of FCCLA. .

I sure hope the poor fellow has been putting $7k annually in his IRA. Bang up tax planning right there.
As opposed to not doing it? Also, that's not tax planning. Roth is after tax investment that grows tax free. You obviously don't know the difference between Roth and SEP and the allowance.

That's a Roth. Max out SEP as well and any other long term retirement plans. Buy real estate and invest carefully as much as possible

I suppose if he doesn't put some back for the long term he could just spend it all and be broke.......oh wait

It will never be confirmed.

Now, the story has taken an unexpected turn with Oregon’s name being thrown into the mix. A new report indicates that Ducks head coach Dan Lanning may have given Tennessee a heads-up that Nico—or, more specifically, his camp—had reached out to explore opportunities outside of Rocky Top. It’s still a rumor, but it’s making waves online and stirring up even more questions about Iamaleava’s future.

Let’s be clear: nothing’s been officially confirmed. According to folks close to the Tennessee program, Lanning reportedly contacted Josh Heupel to let him know Iamaleava’s name had come up in conversations involving Oregon. Whether that’s true or not, it’s got fans talking and insiders scrambling for answers.

What about a coach telling another coach their player is contacting other schools is collusion? Shouldn't the Nico camp have shared with Tennessee that they were having talks with others? Shouldn't the other school ask permission to speak to him?

Coach 1 to coach 2, hey coach one of your players is hitting us up is no more that your best bud calling you up to say your gal is hitting him up. Yikes ...... it's just a friendly courtesy call...right?

Almost seems "the camp" was/is conspiring to either extort Tennessee, or conspired to have him leave Tennessee high and dry and scrambling at the behest of another program Both cause financial harm to Tennessee. Could a particular university south of Tennessee down i65 and then west of Birmingham a bit be involved in any way? Nah probably not.

I'd guess it's all about the "L" word.....

Leverage.

The portal was opening. He and his team figured they held all the cards, so they used them.

It would seem there could be an issue. His father seems to be the one pushing for more money. Walking away from TN at the end of spring practice is Deshaun Watson level stupid. Every major team has their starter locked in at QB. They have made promises to them to make sure they would come and be a part of their program. That's why OR was a solid no on Nico. Only a middle of the pack team would consider him now, and then they have to come up with the money he wants. We got to the playoffs because our defense bailed us out in the red zone in 2 key games, not because Nico stepped up and won them for us. He is still a cypher in terms of his elite talent. Some team is going to just pony up $ 4 mil after spring practice is over? He's only got fall camp to work himself into any program now. Nico's father may have just destroyed his career. Don't think the NFL is not taking notes on what just happened.

They've got 4 QB's on the roster as it is
