Did CBJ do much better than CDD?

My point was simply that in 2013 when CBJ knew he was ready to lose his entire O line only signed 3 O linemen- Wiseman, Sanders, Kendrick. I realize we have needed players everywhere, but if the O-line is thin and lacking talent, then we are in for a rough road ahead.

In 2012, CDD did not sign a single O-Lineman out of 22 players. However, CBJ only signed 4 O-lineman in 2014 out of 32 players knowing he had to replace an entire O-Line.
(Blair, Mosley, RR, Thomas). I am in no way doubting the recruiting effort and talent of CBJ, but I would think we needed a few more O-lineman.

You are correct. Do you believe the 2013 and 2014 classes addressed our need for O-lineman adequately?

No for 2013 - some of that class was a direct result of player relationships with assistant coaches (prev staff).

Dan Skipper OT followed Sam Pittman and Jim Chaney to Arky.

Yes for 2014.

Zeus Brown would have been big if not for academics.

Mosley & Roberson are o-line, not d-line.

Blair, Thomas, Raulerson

Total of 6 O linemen recruited. 5 signed.

Fulmer used to recruit tons of DTs and convert to OL. Fred Weary was a HS DT - turned into an all pro center.

Sawyers could eventually play on the o-line.

Thanks for your response and great points. One more question. I think Roberson will be a good player for us. Is it just too early to say to much about Thomas and is there much hope for Blair if he couldn't get in shape for a starting spot this year?

99% of kids going straight from HS to SEC football would struggle.

Add to that he was a HS center now playing tackle.

Thomas will be good in time.

I'm no expert, so not sure why Blair isn't a better option. I've heard Blair has had trouble with the mental aspect, so I'm guessing that means learning all the blocking schemes.

I would guess Blair will start in 15 & 16.

Jesus...Too many Tennessee fans live in the past. News flash people...Tennessee hasn't been good in over a decade and Dooley era is over. With this being said, it takes time to rebuild. Be patient with CBJ, it takes a few years to turn around a program. A couple years ago we were getting blown out by the sec teams we are now only losing to by a slim margin...that's progress in my book

Seriously, how many times were you dropped on yer head as a kid? That is the dumbest thing I've ever read on here, think about that statement...that was world class dumbass right there.

I think signing a class like 2011 (6 O-Line) in 2013 or 2014 would have put us in a much better position than we are in now. Skilled players are nice on paper, but when the whistle blows you need the lineman to get things done.

So... you want our entire OL freshmen? lol

I for one of many,am certainly glad some people dont have to earn a living thinking. :mf_surrender:

And if he had signed all O-Linemen and no other players you'd be crying about how Butch didn't recruit any other offensive or defensive players.

Doesn't really matter what you have as far as skill players go if you can't:
1) run the ball
2) have time to throw the ball

I can see the switch for Robertson, but the other 7 walk ons is a reach and just a product of attrition. Why award 7 scholarships to walk ons when we had 2 years to actually sigh HS 3* athletes?

I didn't mean to imply we gave scholarships to all 7, just that some of the walk ons were. Point was that 7 walk ons is too many to rely on.
