Why we never threw the ball into the middle of the field? I never saw once when we did a slant route or post or anything. And why did we run it almost every play Ben when they had seven guys on the line? Just wondering thanks guys and my final thought it that we have a better chance at beating Florida but we need the crowd into it. GO to the game and GO VOLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I noticed that too. I also noticed that Simms chose not to throw to open receivers over the middle. He seems to be in the mold of Crompton in that he's not comfortable with his feet planted and throws better on the move.

That pick-6 was a terrible decision on pretty much all fronts and worse it was utterly backbreaking.

The way he throws too high I'd be scared of him going to the middle.

I don't know, ask Coach D.:)
Maybe that's all we had in the gameplan?
I would like to think the passing offense will open up with experience and confidence in the QB and receivers. There was some passes that should've been caught. There were some passes that shouldn't have been thrown. We could beat this Duck all day.
Whatever, I still believe in this team and coaches.
It's still one game and we have depth and experience issues that only will be corrected through time.
GO VOLS!

I think on that pick-6 he was trying to throw it away but just didnt get enough power under it. And we need to throw it down the field a lot more. We deff have a running game, but we can't just play the run Every Single Play.... Gotta take shots down the field

Is Stocker ill or something? Our one proven weapon is a non factor in both games so far ...

Simms stares his wr's down..if he throws over the middle it is an int waiting to happen..he has to get some confidence and the ability to look off or the middle of the field will be void for UT this year

Simms is not the answer at QB....unfortunately I don't think Bray is the answer yet either.....we are going to need to throw the ball better to have any success this year

I think he was just trying to exploit 1-1 matchups as our WRs have an enormous height advantage. Simms just didn't consistently make the throws.

One thing I noticed about Oregons passing game is that they threw alot of short routes and screens and that's it. Simms ain't too accurate IMO

Simms seems to just lock on his #1 WR, whatever the play may be, and just forget about everyone else on the field. Several times you could see TE's and other WR wide open and instead he would throw it to the primary target no matter the coverage.

i saw a few over middle plays that COULDNT have been INT's even looking him down that would have been 6 pts... The problem is it seems as there is a HOT ROUTE in his head and thats the only guy he is interested in....

Oregon squeezed the offense because they finally figured out they weren't going to throw it down field. Florida will do the same except with a better secondary.

simms isnt the answer. and i agree that bray isnt YET either. however back in 94 peyton was supposed to be the future and was third on the chart. injuries forced the issue and he ends up starting that season - way earlier that planned. even tho manning has God status here, he struggled h that year and lost some games that couldve been won, but it worked out great.

what is the down side to doing that with Bray? you dont have to wait for simms to get hurt and it isnt going to get worsre at the Qb position.
Tn seems to have a few losses staring at them either way so why not let Bray learn now so that by the end of the year and certainly next year he is ready

let him grow with the receivers he has

This!! I saw him do it too many times. He would take the snap, immediately look to his primary and no one else. If we can pick this up from watching in the stands, you know lb's and db's are all over!!

You don't throw the ball over the middle if you are afraid of an interception. At this time we do not have a QB that we are confident in enough to do that.. Bray even more so than Simms (seeing as how his only throw over the middle was intercepted).

There is so much traffic in the middle that you really have to pick your spots well.

On the pick 6 Hunter was open behind Rogers. Simms never saw him, he`s got tunnel vision the game needs to slow down for him.

Simms definitely showed his inexperience by a) locking on to his # 1 receiver in the route and b) always trying to out throw the receiver / defender thinking it gives the advantage to the taller man.

I think these will both improve as we move on

What I want to know is why we never threw it deep. It seemed like there were numerous times Oregon lined up in man coverage with no safeties deep and we never tried to exploit that.
