Did 5-7 record really reflect talent?

Huh? The 2001 team was immensely talented and very deserving to play for the SEC title. That team should have been 12-0 and in the Rose bowl playing Miami for the NC.

The 1999 season was a prime example of complacency by the staff. A national champion almost losing to Memphis on its home field? Impressive.

2002 was another fine example of complacency. Injuries yes, but we lost every big game of the season, Arkansas win is debatable.

Where are 2006, 2007 and 2008? Kind of shoot some holes in your argument don't they?

Go back and reread what you wrote above and explain again why fulmer did such a bang up job the past 10 years, you're shooting yourself in the foot. 2004 was the only year we overachieved, and that was greatly facilitated by the fact we were facing Zook and Shula.

For me those back to back ugly losses to ACC powerhouses Clemson and Maryland (sarcasm font is on) was more the Fulmer legacy after the great run ended in 1998. Those two losses told you everything you needed to know about where this program was heading. There were some false positive indicators and some exciting games, but the program in general was on a down slide from 2000 on. Unfortunately a program like ours that really needed to do something special for an extended period to cement a reputation as a top tier program could not get it done in 1999 or 2001 when the opportunity was there. 1998 looks more like a blip then a great run.

5-7 was no reflection of talent unless you believe Wyoming and UCLA beat us with talent. We may have lost to Bama, UF and UGA because of talent, but the rest... not so much.

i think we have grown too comfortable with the play that our teams have shown under fulmer's career. If Arkansas doesn't even call a pass play and fumbles the ball we are empty handed for a national championship in 98.

I really believe with another coach we could have done better in our overall record. No more 3rd and lift up our skirts or 5 broken tackles for an opponent's first down. We have been far too conservative and even our practices weren't physical enough.

Our coaches should be pushing our kids to be better at what they do and making them want to win. Losing became acceptable and it should never be a consideration.
