Ok, this is maybe the third thread I've started in 11 years.. 😳 Made this comment in another thread and decided to make a thread with this thought..

Obviously we have no shot at the East so, IMO, it's time to turn this season into a developmental one. Pruitt is not going to be fired this year no matter what. So, he might as well start let the young talent play. That way they get some development and some actual depth may be built for nest year. If Pruitt at least gives the impression he's looking to the future, I believe he might get a little more slack from the fanbase (maybe😬). I doubt he will, but it sounds good.... sort of..

What say you VolNation?

I’m down for development

As long as the ā€œdevelopment seasonā€ isn’t like the 3rd quarter today.

Coaches conceding a loss and not even trying to win.
Not suggesting we concede losses, but I honestly would rather see the younger talent giving solid effort, trying to win and gaining experience in a loss than what we've witnessed the last two games..

I've been preaching this since Georgia. Get as much experience as possible for everyone for 2021, especially the quarterback you like the best not named Guarantano.

I didn’t take your post that way in the least.

Just not sure the coaches wouldn’t......they sure seemed to today.

šŸ‘ Honestly other than about half of the first quarter, I really didn't pay much attention to the game..

Lol I don’t know the guy, never really liked the guy, and I can’t believe I take up for him....but here goes.

We criticize Weinke a lot......possibly ā€œjustlyā€....I don’t know. However none of the other QB’s have really ever been given much of a chance......certainly not this year.

I could be way off....but it seems like more of a CJP problem.....or stubbornness.

Practice habits. Somehow 2 or 3 years in the system, only JG has good practice habits.

The 3rd was strange. Tennessee was down by like 25 and their play calling was literally like they were up by 8 or 9 with 4 minutes to go in the game.

it seriously looked like they were playing ā€œnot to loseā€.......but were losing by quite a lot.

That's entirely possible but if he's been forced to spend the majority of his time with JG, well... uhhh.. I doubt he's a miracle worker...

Lol, definitely not miracle worker. So, you're saying he hasn't been spending the majority with JG already. If so, the backups should be further along. They aren't, so here's clearly not spending time with them. WTH is he doing, chasing down cornbread and BBQ.

Yea, I don’t know the guy at all. He may have lost his touch. However at one point Weinke was thought of as one of the very best QB developers.

Maybe he’s not now...I don’t know.....but maybe JG is as good as he ā€œcanā€ be.

I think ā€œothersā€ simply need some game time to see what they can do......we know it can’t be any worse.......at least the outcome can’t be.

I have no explanation for the game plan and they probably don't either. I've never seen a blowout loss where you run it 1.5x as much as you pass it. It was almost like they were just trying to minimize JGs opportunity to perform poorly at the expense of having any shot at being competitive.

No, I said "if he's been forced to spend all his time with JG" meaning/assuming he's constantly tied up trying to make JG better which may not be possible thru no fault of Weinke. And yes, that also means the others aren't getting the attention they need..

All that is one GIANT pile of speculation and Weinke may actually suck balls because I have no idea what really goes on behind the scenes..

I like the concept of a developmental season and this would be the perfect year. Not sure the fans can handle it without some savvy coach speak to properly convey the mission. Seriously doubt Beldar has those skills.

I wouldn’t call Beldar an idiot, he’s quickly becoming a $hitty head coach though. He can redeem himself but he’s dug a mighty hole.

I’m still dumbfounded how a lifelong gump was hired in the first place. When you live, breath and bleed gump how does one transition to being the head coach at Tennessee? It never seemed a very good idea.

We don't have a shot to win the east bit 5-5 or even 6-4 is plausible. You have to play to at least get .500 this season.

So all in all, he needs to do both. There's zero reason to play Brandon Johnson and Cedric Tillman right now. They simple don't of can't get open. Hyatt should start. Velus Jones sucks apparently. So why not start another freshman WR? Wideman oozes potential.
