Developmental season?.....

No, I said "if he's been forced to spend all his time with JG" meaning/assuming he's constantly tied up trying to make JG better which may not be possible thru no fault of Weinke. And yes, that also means the others aren't getting the attention they need..

All that is one GIANT pile of speculation and Weinke may actually suck balls because I have no idea what really goes on behind the scenes..

I understood what you meant, I needed the blue font there I guess, apologies.

I would say yes for the QB. I wouldn't say for the rest of the team. Its time to move on to Mauer or Bailey, but I would keep playing all the starters. This is a chance to get a QB ready for next season and the team ready.

Should play anyone that they think has any chance of helping. Playing for a 500 record and a trip to the toilet bowl anyway. Clear the bench. Find a big back, find a DE, find a QB.. Maybe a linebacker that can actually cover someone from time to time. This team looks ten times worse than last year's team.

The 3rd was strange. Tennessee was down by like 25 and their play calling was literally like they were up by 8 or 9 with 4 minutes to go in the game.

it seriously looked like they were playing “not to lose”.......but were losing by quite a lot.

I know people have joked that Chaney takes snack breaks during the game, but that stretch literally felt like our highly paid OC was not available and a grad assistant was calling the plays.

Here’s a scary thought.... What if CJP and CJC were thinking of developing for next year by giving JG snaps in the fourth quarter?

Ok, this is maybe the third thread I've started in 11 years.. 😳 Made this comment in another thread and decided to make a thread with this thought..

Obviously we have no shot at the East so, IMO, it's time to turn this season into a developmental one. Pruitt is not going to be fired this year no matter what. So, he might as well start let the young talent play. That way they get some development and some actual depth may be built for nest year. If Pruitt at least gives the impression he's looking to the future, I believe he might get a little more slack from the fanbase (maybe😬). I doubt he will, but it sounds good.... sort of..

What say you VolNation?

Don't think it would be fair for Taylor, Thompson and a few others to sit. That would surely affect.NFL chances.

Lol I don’t know the guy, never really liked the guy, and I can’t believe I take up for him....but here goes.

We criticize Weinke a lot......possibly “justly”....I don’t know. However none of the other QB’s have really ever been given much of a chance......certainly not this year.

I could be way off....but it seems like more of a CJP problem.....or stubbornness.
It has to be that...... or the others are not very good either. Shrout has an arm but was a turnover machine in high school.... Maurer has had injury issues

So technically I guess the jury is still out on Pruitt considering the craziness of 2020 lost practice time etc. Something that crossed my mind why is it (besides the bargain bin) do we continue to hire the wrong coaches you would think eventually we'd get a good one, not just head coaches but position coaches as well. We always seem we're a year from firing our coach when a good up and comer is available. I certainly wish we'd hired James Franklin or Gary Patterson when we had the chance, things could've gone alot better for us but here we are a decade later 😪

Didn't mean to imply that they or older guys sit at all, just that the younger guys have to see some meaningful snaps/series in game situations.

Hard to develop when Pruitt ran off all the developmental coaches.

He lost Fitz and just like Jones he promoted from within. S&C has obviously suffered. Rocker is arguably one of the best teachers and developers. He ran him off for a “recruiter” who was let go after four games. Ansley is invisible. Pruitt has refused to hire a veteran, proven DC. The defense is horrid. Awful. Terrible.

Friend is arguably doing less with more than any coach in the SEC.

Understand now, It was good to see some players like K Lawrence play some snaps, he didn't seem intimidated by bama.

Fitz was definitely a loss, Rocker too. I don't know about Ansley, he seemed to be well thought of and a good hire as best as I can remember..

Friend? Can't argue with ya there..

Pruitt hasn't given the impression he's looking for the future tho, and I'm convinced he won't.
If he doesn't then the young guys will be behind going into next season and I'd be willing to bet next yr will look more or less the same.

Pruitt is petrified that the young players will...gasp...make a mistake during the games. Can't have mistakes in critical situations. Just impossible to take a risk like that.

Yep. Then it becomes "we're so young" and "we just don't have the depth". I'm becoming more convinced by the day that Pruitt really doesn't have a clue and is pocketing excuses to use next season. He appears to want low expectations that are easier to meet. All this talk about getting talent on the roster and competing for SEC championships is very reminiscent of another crap coach we used to have.

He just seems to be to conservative for the college game, at least offensively..

These young guys seem so hungry to contribute. They play harder and with more vigor than some of the older guys.

Who himself is another gump. The two most important coaches on the team are gumps! Gumps, running Tennessee football...gumps! Let that sink in.
You do realize Bill Battle was, as you put it, a "gump". Please tell me you're not one of the crazies that think Pruitt and Friend, I guess, are here to secretly sabotage Tennessee football...
