Derek Dooley......(merged)

Remember when we hired Bruce Pearl? Firey, energetic coach coming from a small school to the big stage. Yes, he had a better record at Wisc.-Milwaukee than Dooley's HC records, but they share the same characteristics. Bruce Pearl has resurrected our basketball program. Give Dooley a chance to prove to us he was the best choice. Kippy's still on staff most likely and will still be in living rooms recruiting players the same way he recruited all of us with a single press conference. We will have a great recruiting tandem between Kippy and Dooley. Thank God for some closure on this week!

Dooley was the 7th or 8th pick UT wanted. We'll be lucky to get 6 wins next season.

I'll still watch and root for the Vols but, guys, let's not pretend this is something to get excited about. He had a cumulative losing record at LA Tech. That says enough.

Sorry but We dodged a MAJOR bullet by not getting Cutcliffe. You want Fulmer part deux??? Really?? 'Cause we just about got it.

We need to thanking the football gods right now...

Cutcliffe would have been much worse but that doesn't make me feel much better at this point.

This. And, FWIW, we'll be lucky to keep our record of no 8 loss seasons intact.

Lets back this guy. Kiffin put us in a terrible spot. That's not Dooley's fault. He is not my first choice or second, even fifth, but. . .

He wanted the job and is excited about it. If he sincerely wants to be here--and he's apparently the only one who did--then I am with him. Let's hope he does a great job for us and Lane and the rest crash and burn in Hell/LA.

You can go ahead and throw out at least 9 of his losses. Why? Because small schools like LA Tech and LA Monroe play AT LEAST 3 games a year for money, knowing they will lose. Why? Because the payouts for these supports the program. Without taking these automatic losses (except on rare occasions) they could not pay to support football at the school. They know up front that without these losses, they would not even have football at the school.

Have you looked at the schedule,,, if you did then you would have said this before Coach Douche left. Next year is a beach.

Roy Williams was like Kansas' 9th or 10th pick. Once your point? There's not a coach on the planet that could win 10 games next season with the talent we have now and next years schedule.

most "experts" on the board were already saying we'd be lucky to win 6 next year

almost totally rebuilt offense
new O-Line (only one guy with ANY experience)
new QB

replacing Berry will not be an easy task either.

But UT has a habit of winning some games that no one gives us a chance in. It is possible that we improve our record. Last year most wrote Bama up as a loss saying there was no way to beat them. We came oh so close (so all I'm saying is is WE DID HAVE A CHANCE).

This. I do not understand all the negativity, i mean damn, is your blood orange or not !

If you thought we were going to do any better than 6 or 7 wins next year with Kiffin, you're dumber than you sound. That's saying something.

i'm shocked they hired him. His worst season was his most recent one shouldn't he be improving La tech since those were mostly his players. Plus he was coaching in the wac surely the talent pool is better in his area than utah and idaho etc even after all the big bcs schools take the elite talent, that shouldn't matter anyhow since he was probably recruiting against schools more like southern miss for players. He only coached his team to 4 wins on the year against teams with a combined 14-35 record none of which had even a .500 record and no wins on the road. If your going after a coach from the WAC atleast go after a winning coach from that conference not a loser, if he can't win there what makes anyone think he can win against the top coaches of the SEC which by the way are the best in the whole country... as average as cut is he would have been a better option to just stay afloat.. vandy wouldn't have even hired dooley wtf is going on

I agree that's the way it should be, but that's not reality. Fire Kippy after two years, much less one, and you'll have the NAACP protesting outside every home game, with Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson on all the news talk shows making a huge issue out of it. Notre Dame got ration of grief and they gave Willingham 3 years before they canned him. Not to mention they aren't from the South with all the preconceptions the media has about this part of the country.

That is a very large assumption, and one that is completely irrelevant. If we are making coaching hires with the slightest bit of consideration to Al Sharpton's preference, we are beyond hope.

Coaching ability without character isn't going to produce a NC.

The list of schools at the top of the football world for the past couple of decades--Bama, USC, Florida, Miami, FSU, Oklahoma--looks a lot like the NCAA's most wanted to me. When I see the names Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, and Pete Carroll, and before them Bobby Bowden, Dennis Ericson, and Barry Switzer, character is the first thing that comes to mind.

Get'em vols_fan! They are why we are here now. If they were not calling for Fulmers head, and we let him have another year, sink or swim, we wouldn't have to battle each other. The fanbase and Uni is divided. The nego's (negative folks) think there's no place for tradition and don't know there football history. I would hazard a guess that there all liberals as well. Liberals never look at history. The vast majority of coaches are hired in this way. We have tradition playing the style of football that we play. That limits our choices as well. Nego's (libs) live on a different plant. They think you can buy a coach for tons of money from another equal or more successful program and he's guaranteed to lead us to a NC AND be loyal to the Univerity. I wish the insanely negative "fans" would go ruin some other school.
