Those parameters did not stop those above listed schools from hiring someone. (Auburn being the exception) UT has what it takes to compete with them and its all about the money.

RIght but that was in the nfl where he had to deal with Al davis..No one wins there....Plus he atleast had a stud recruiter and a big time daddy coat tail to ride off of

Roger. I don't know a whole lot about coaching qualifications. I do know from many years in management that in this situation you take the best available right now. Time is your enemy. Which means Kippy Brown and is what I've thought since Tuesday night.

Well, i guess i better make fun of the Vols head coach on this board while i can, before you all embrace him.

Seriously, he really looks more like a Badmitton team coach for Duke. He looks too nice. Does anyone know if this guy is actually aggressive in nature?

hat, I think Sumlin would be a really good hire. What do you think about that?

And also, if you are at the point of hiring a Dooley, wouldn't you just try and get a young, NFL position coach with energy and football knowledge? Somebody who can be a big-time hire with lots of upside, a Mike Tomlin kinda guy. I just don't see the upside with Dooley.

We need to get over ourselves and realize that this is actually happening. I personally think it will work out in the long run. Is it a quick fix? Probably not. But in the long run this stands to be a fairly good hire for Tennessee.

Hear,hear. I don't understand all these chicken little's threatening to quit being fans or not buying tix because we are not getting a big splash hire. Go ahead and dump 'em. It'll just be cheaper for me to go to games, cause I'll be there whoever is on the sidelines.

As a Tech alum, I have had the privlage over the past few years to see Derek's work at the University and around the community. He has taken a program out of the depths and has revitalized it and has brought a vision to the school and the community of what Tech will one day be. Derek and his family have been a huge asset to our small community that we would hate to see go.

The OU staff speaks in glowing terms about Sumlin. Is he ready to be an SEC head coach? Not sure, but I'm pretty sure he's better than a guy who finishes 4-8 in the WAC in his third year.

Please explain yourself. Dooley is the AD as well as the HC at LTech. He obviously is smart and can handle a heavy workload as well as pressure. Kippy Brown is nowhere near as qualified as Dooley. NOT EVEN CLOSE! Anyone who would make the grossly unqualified Kippy HC has no business being AD.

It really does, doesn't it? Remember how much we (and the rest of the SEC) laughed at Aubarn's Chizik hire last offseason. That was bad, now just imagine how this is going to play with the rest of the SEC. We will officially become the laughingstock of the conference if this hire takes place.

My thoughts exactly. Sumlin has a lot more upside than Dooley. Plain and Simple.

Agreed. I'm still amazed that everyone think the Chizik hire has worked, although it has only been a year.

Sumlin has succeeded using a very gimmicky offense. Could he succeed in the SEC? I don't know, but I don't think he is ready yet. Just my opinion.

Great, I just received an email from a client of mine who happens to be a big Louisiana Tech support. He asked me what we were thinking... a question to which I didn't have a good answer. He added that Dooley is a "below average coach." Not my words, just passing along from someone who knows Dooley better than probably any of us on this board.
