For years I have been watching commitments change their minds several times before signing day. My reason for this post is to encourage our high school teachers to teach their students the meaning of the word commitment. Honestly, I doubt many know the meaning of the word and the majority cannot even spell it.

Imagine being 18 and having to decide where you're going to live for 4 years when you still have to raise your hand to go to the bathroom.

That's a good insight to why they're indecisive.

You have to admit though, that last years NSD was the least dramatic one I remember in years. We had an unusual amount of EE's, and if I remember correctly, there wasn't any surprises or much drama at all to speak of. I think that is a direct reflection on this staff and how well they recruit.

I stopped raising my hand after HS.

It's tough to criticize 16 and 17 year old kids for not sticking with their commitment when coaches often recruit over committed players then tell them to look around. That's just the reality of recruiting.

Is it any wonder? Have you seen the divorce rate lately? Not many people are committed to anything these days...except to their stupid Ipods.:hi:

With the amount of pressure put on these kids to make a "commitment" one can only expect them to reevaluate and change their mind.

Universities do the same thing to the players.....

It only stings when they de-commit from your favorite school.... We love it when they de-commit and then become a Vol!

GBO!

Also situations are constantly changing... coaching changes, schematic changes, family changes, etc.

Teaching the proper spelling and definition of commitment at school would not change a single thing.

IMO it's the parents that are the problem, not the teachers.

You could just start wearing Depends and not worry about hand-raising.

It's really not a problem. Just part of the landscape. The problem is the fans emotional attachment. Let it go.

Ridiculous for so many reasons:
Its a huge life decision give me one good reason a YOUNG man cant reconsider
UT will most likely take a decommit from another school before signing day I doubt you would have the same feelings for that kid.
These coaches spread like cockroaches at the end of the year if a kid committed to play for a coach who left you think he should be forced to stay there?

if your a smart recruit you tell every coach your interested and would love to play for them...its called playing the recruiting game. now for a kid to full on verbal commit post pictures and talk about a program then switch on signing day with no word, thats messed up. if you were looking for a new job would you not leverage your offers? while you only see it as a disgruntled fan when "your" team loses a recruit, they might have had a better offer with better chance to start earlier or even more grant money in the case of smaller level colleges (NAIA, 1AA,). when you step out of the angry fan mode, remember they have to decide where they want to be for the first time in there lives alone without family around for 4 years....flame away
