Defensive Fun Fact..

I will agree with you overall. He is a bad coach with a bad attitude and bad relationships with players. The other stuff was horrible and indefensible. There just isn't evidence he was involved with that. Most followed what others were saying. It was chaotic and insane and brought some attention that wasn't the right kind.

Glad to hear you are a current student, one of my granddaughters is currently enrolled and I have gone over to visit a few times. Unfortunately for me, so many buildings have been demolished and rebuilt since I was there in the 80's, it is a little hard to get around now without an escort. :)
Yeah my dad graduated in 91 and even he is now unfamiliar to the campus. I walk by construction everyday so I’m sure in 30 years I’ll be the same way

Brohm coming into the SEC for the first time, to a place like Tennessee seems like a bad idea. A lot of expectations here, brutal schedule. I think he's a good coach, with a solid offense but...

I agree, we haven’t had good luck with non SEC coaches, they realize that most of the bad SEC teams are still better than most other teams. It shocks them.

It’s why I was happy with Pruitt, he knew what he was up against

And Schiano, the "best head coach candidate available", still doesn't have any P5 offers. So glad he didn't end up here.

I'm also glad we didn't end up with Mullen. While he is a good coach, there is something about his goofy personality I just can't stand.

Just about all the other candidates that were open for hire during our transition have panned out to be lackluster at best. And while Leach continues to produce at Wazzou, we didn't need the weekly headlines from his personality quirks here in Tennessee.

I think Brohm and Frost could have done a decent job here, but I think Pruitt will pan out much better.

I’m going to but my head in here.

I know multiple boards of trustee members at Penn State, I’ve met previous members of the football staff. I know major donors and have had several “off the record” conversations with them.

If they had deposed everyone at Penn State who had knowledge of Sandusky...that entire program would have to be burned to the ground.

This truly was a secret that EVERYONE close to the program knew, the only reason it didn’t make mainstream was because they had all agreed to keep it quiet for the sake of the school

It was so well known players would joke about not getting caught in the showers with Sandusky. Not to mention Paterno’s staff was filled with folks who had been with him for decades. It would surprise me more if they didn’t know, with how many people I’ve talked to about it.

I can’t remember the name of the poster who posted this, he’s posted it twice on VN now, but I kept a screenshot of it to share with my family after this debacle happened. It shows you how well this was covered up and how even outsiders chose to put the school over the kids.

This is NOT my story, but as I said, I know enough people involved with Penn State to be certain of it

I’ll add, none of this is proof that Schiano knew for certain, however that’s not necessarily the point. The point is that it is likely he did, in that way he is tainted and that’s all the ammunition any other coach would need. He could easily tell recruits and their parents “do you want to trust your kids with someone who might be guilty of covering up child rape?”

Don’t tell me they wouldn’t use it.

I think this gets overlooked sometimes. It would have killed us on the recruiting trail for sure.

It was, and that was one of the biggest reasons for it. Even if he is innocent, the cold facts are that presumption of innocence only applies to legal matters, in public perception, presumption of guilt is what reins supreme, for good or ill. We would have to be defending the face of our football program the entire time, all the other schools would have to do is pull out that deposition and say "Hey, he could be innocent...but do you want to risk it?"

I'm sure some people might have been convinced otherwise, but how many more wouldn't be?

This kind of matter might have been able to be overcome if Schiano was an elite coach like Saban and Urban Meyer. But he is neither one of them, he had mild success at Rutgers and a disaster in the NFL. His baggage was not worth his talent by any stretch. The fact that the media did not recognize this shows what hacks they were.

Will this fanbase ever let this go? I personally didn't want Schiano because he is a terrible coach with a bad attitude. It really doesn't matter who we didn't get, I believe we DID get the perfect coach to bring this team back from exile.

I think the reason why the fan base doesn’t let this go, is simply that for once in all the crappy decisions that were made for our football team in the last ten years, is because for once it felt like we had a say in the direction our proud program needs to go. Do we need to keep bringing it up, probably not. Got to move forward, but for one moment in time, our opinions mattered.
