I would say
coaching 50%
intinsity 20%
dicipline 30%
What do you feel makes us so bad?
agreed, which is where you then have to scheme to stop someone....and i just don't see it happening. but you're right, the personnel we have don't allow us "to do what we do" as they might say from time to time.I agree that coaching is the biggest problem. However, I think Chavis plays so conservative b/c we just arn't very talented on D this year. The front 4 rarely pressures the QB, so that leaves us with 2 choices: 1- sit back and play solid in the secondary and stuff the run (which we've tried and haven't done well) or 2- gamble and send in mixed biltzing packages like a DB or 2 to disrrupt the opposing QB's timing. Hell, if they arn't going to cover well, send um at the source!
It's clear that Chavis is relying heavily on our talented offense this year to keep pace with the other team: Stay conservative and let EA and company do their thing. The only problem is when EA and company have an off game, they can't look to our D to bail us out.
Bottomline: If we get behind, the defense HAS to start gambling.
i think after watching all the game so far, just about everything they've tried has not worked. when they blitz and play man on the outside, they get a completion, when they lay back and cover, they get a completion. draws work, runs to the outside work. and the most common factor in all of it is.......we simply don't tackle. i watched a little of the replay last night and there was one play i remember, it was 3rd and 4 for SC, inside the TN 20 in the 1st qtr. they ran a draw. it gained 21 yards. We missed 6 tackles on the play. the first of which was right behind the LOS, the other 5 past the LOS.I think Chavis and Slade have too long of a memory. We keep playing that huge cushion zone probably because of how we got beat deep a number of times early in the season. I think it is obvious the cushion zone is getting shred, and frankly I for one would rather take the chance with the deep pass than give up short yards over, and over, and over, and over, and over.
Yea but is it Chavis not blitzing or our guys?
Ok sat against SC we had plenty of pass rush most we have had all season, fact is our D backs play about 5 to 10 yards off the reciever... we had plenty of time where the Dline was breathing down the QBs neck and he still made the off his back foot completion because our D backs where five yards behind the reciever that was standing on the first down mark! I mean come on you should be looking for INTs there not just to keep the guy infront of you... the only thing our D backs accomplish during the course of the game is not Getting a home run ball hit on them that often... Eric Berry is the only D back outside of the linebackers that looks like he should be on the field half the timeNo pass rush. Number 1 problem.
