Defense could use new blood, also

That's one thing I find even more troubling. We've got the athletes to totally shut down a one-dimensional offense. I guess we lack the discipline, scheme, or knowledge to shut down a more balanced attack.

I think LSU runs a balanced attack and we held them down pretty well.

The Big Ten has 8 of it's 11 teams going to a bowl this year. The SEC has 9 of it's 12 teams going to bowls. That's pretty even from what I see. We got beat by a Penn St. team that wasn't even supposed to come close to beating us according to the experts. Isn't that what most are saying this year about Wisconsin too?? Another loss to a Big Ten team may prove they are better than advertised.

Going to a bowl is not an accomplishment. The crappiest UT team in forever was one questionable pass interference call away from going to a bowl. The Big Ten is freaking terrible. They were terrible last year. The are even worse this year. Losing to Penn State was a tremendous failure by our coaches.

LSU had 212 yards rushing and 252 yards passing. That was with an injured backup QB whose only real experience came against MTSU.

Yards don't matter as much as points. LSU had more talent than we did and scored 1 offensive TD. Perilloux isn't chop suey.

I agree going to a bowl is not an accomplishment, except if it's a BCS bowl. Also on another note, if a frog had wings he wouldn't bump his ass when he hopped.

Perilloux isn't chop suey, but no one trusted his passing ability. I'd like to see how many passes he threw before he was injured. I think he only three one or two, both on third and long. LSU didn't want him passing it. Their gameplan was to run the ball with him, Hester, and the rest. They had to go to a more traditional offense when Ryan hurt his knee. I just remembered...didn't Perilloux also injure his throwing hand?

Well if you're going to use Perilloux, I'll say we have a converted WR playing one corner and the worst senior safety in the league. We also have a very very average front 4. The point is, Chavis took a very average group of players and held the team that would play for a national title to 1 TD.

Anyway, the defense did in fact do their job. When you don't have Matt Flynn, Early Doucet, Holliday, and Perilloux is injured you shouldn't let them score too many points. And they didn't.

Sadly, the offense had an off day. However, I'd say the defense had just as many off day as the offense did this season.

I'm not going to really argue that Chavis didn't do his job that day. See my above post. As for Vinson, his coach at Hargrave actually said he's better at CB than he is WR, for what it's worth. I think he'll be fine next year, if his shoulder ever gets back to normal.

Even with a first year coach and and offense that doesn't have the personnel to run it. Plus RR like to run a 3-3-5 which is fast, but with a conference with better players than the Big East I think that could get exposed. I think undefeated is a little far fetched, but hey you never know.
I've seen absolutely nothing the last two years that indicates to me the Big 10 has better players than the Big East.

Little clarification? I saw Holliday and Doucet playing.

They played for awhile, but had to leave the game. Early Doucet pretty much gets hurt every week.

I think that was second half. Holliday had the fumble and I believe Mapu made his only contribution in 4 years when he laid Doucet out.

Mapu had a sack or two in his freshman year. I remember someone on here guaranteeing that Mapu would end up having a better UT career than Turk McBride. In order to do that, Mapu needs to get about 19 sacks against Wisconsin. Good luck, JT.

OK, I want to see your comparisons so I can see where you are coming from. If the Big 10 doesn't have better players than the Big East, then the Pac-10 has better players than the SEC.

Who in the Big 10 is any good? Ohio State. South Florida and West Virginia are better than anyone else in that league. Southern Cal is the only PAC 10 team that would be competitive in the SEC.

I personally think Illinois would beat WV and South Florida. I'm surprised you didn't mention Cincy as a good team in the Big East.

Illinois lost to Iowa. They're going to get absolutely annihilated in the Rose Bowl. Cincinnati, Rutgers, and UCONN are all teams that would be competitive against most everyone in the Big 10.

Illinois beat tOSU at tOSU. I know you love the Big East as a B-Ball conference, I just can't believe that you are giving them hope as a football conference.

If the Big East were really that crappy Louisville wouldn't have completely imploded this season.

I'm not saying they're a great football league. However, being merely competent places you ahead of the current Big 10.

The entire big ten sucks - no place for them here the real world of SEC football.

pul-leese!

this is the same boastful crap that was being spouted last year, before penn state made UT look like idiots. i suggest that this kind of talk ought to be stowed until the game is over. then, we'll know if its b.s. or not.

p.s.: just remember, wisconsin beat the sec team last year that stomped UT
