Since we are already going to essentially be rebuilding our entire offensive staff, it would be in Fulmer's best interest to take a SERIOUS look at what we are doing on defense and make some significant changes there.
Starting with Chavis...
what does the 1500+ yards and the gazillion points given up in the three season losses do for you?
Michigan will win a minimum of 9 games next year, probably 10 or 11.
He only gave up 31 to Cal, too many, but the offense did not pull their weight.
Gave up 45 to UF, out matched talent wise.
Gave up 15 when the title was on the line...while the offense did their normal disappearing act.
The Big East had more good teams in it this season than the Big 10 did. Michigan will beat Utah within an inch of their lives. Penn State, Illinois, and Michigan State beat the Wolverines with the frequency of a Haley's Comet appearance and Wisconsin is wildly overrated. I won't be one bit surprised if they go into the Ohio State game undefeated. So you don't think that the WV offense he uses will fail somewhat in the Big 10?? I can see it in the Big East, but not against the Big 10.
I could see them losing to Utah, Illinois, Penn St., Michigan St., Wisconsin, and tOSU. Granted they may do better, but with no Mike Hart, Chad Henne, or possibly Mario Manningham for playmakers it could make for a long first season for RR. I like Michigan and hope they do well, but I just don't see them winning 9-10 games. I can see 8, but that's my limit.
He's servicable, but I think a lot of his success comes from the great defensive lines UT has fielded. When our four linemen aren't good, usually neither are the other 7 guys. I'd have a lot less problem with him if he were able to figure out how to slow down DJ Hall, a tight end, or a scrambling quarterback.

That is where judging coaches is tricky. They all look good when they have great players and most don't look good with average talent. The defense improved in my eyes from the beginning of the year to the end. Our front 4 was not that good this year and McCoy and Mayo were playing great towards the end. And I'll keep ragging on the 1 touchdown they gave up in the SECCG game, his D was ready to play, offense well...
Florida showed exactly how good the spread is against the best team in the Big 10leven last year. You beat the Big Ten with speed. The WVU offense was based on speed. Put that together and I think you have a recipe for success in the Big Ten.
I still feel that if Matt Flynn were playing, they'd have given up a heck of a lot more. Anyway, I'm not so sure the defense improved that much. They didn't look too hot against UK. If they come out and don't want to tackle Wisconsin's running back Tony Hunt-style, I'll be pretty fed up.

I agree with you, I just don't see that happening for at least 2 years.
Even with a first year coach and and offense that doesn't have the personnel to run it. Plus RR like to run a 3-3-5 which is fast, but with a conference with better players than the Big East I think that could get exposed. I think undefeated is a little far fetched, but hey you never know.
