Since we are already going to essentially be rebuilding our entire offensive staff, it would be in Fulmer's best interest to take a SERIOUS look at what we are doing on defense and make some significant changes there.

Starting with Chavis...

Has he ever defended an option/spread team the entire time he's been here?

Seeing how rarely we have seen them in the past not sure why that would have ever been his focus. Chavis D's get better. He got better against Spurrier from the beginning to the end. The defense got better this year towrds the end. Not a lot of talent in the front 4, but they got better.

Rich isnt afraid to bring in new blood...

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Rich Rodriguez fired Michigan's assistant coaches Thursday, his second day as an employee of the school.

Rodriguez met with the coaches one by one at Schembechler Hall, as retiring coach Lloyd Carr packed up his belongings in boxes, clearing space for his successor.
"I can understand that he wants to bring in the people that have been with him for years," defensive coordinator Ron English told the Associated Press after having dinner with the coaching staff. "But when you lose your job, it's hard."
Michigan athletic director Bill Martin declined comment.

Spurrier is going to get jealous if you develop a mancrush on Rich Rod, too.

When did Chavis get better against Spurrier? Are you refering to 2001 and the Prowler? :ermm:

Does it really qualify as "new blood" if he brings coaches with him that have worked with him before?

Wouldn't keeping Carr's assistants go further toward Rodriguez not being afraid to work with new blood?

I think he's talking in relative terms to the program. I.E: To Rich they're not new blood, but to UM they are. He's saying he would be wanting a new philosophy here at our program, not relative to the HC.

how can you not love a guy that cleans house while the the previous coach is in the other room packing boxes??? That was pretty funny, I'll give you credit for that. :)

given how many times we've actually seen it, don't know that it's all that prudent to throw him out just yet.

i think Chavis is fine, for the most part. i still say our biggest problem with the D the past two years is we simply haven't had the talent or depth up front that we're used to.

the D did get better as the year went on, and next year could be pretty good. plus Chavis has a good rep with the players, and those that have played for him genuinely seem to respect the man and his abilities. as do most OC's we play, if you put any credance in to what you hear/read on the subject.

Chavis has had some great D's, he just had a bunch of young new players this year. Lay off, Chavis came up with a great scheme against LSU and i expect some great D against Wisconsin if yo many don't don't get suspended.....

Maybe. The last time Spurrier played Chavis with a decent team (Florida) they put up 33, I think. Chavis' defense wasn't too spectacular this year against two dimensional offenses. I do, however, think these guys would have been greatly assisted by an offense that could control the ball a little better.

As for the LSU game, they played well, but I can't help but wonder how much better the Tigers would have been if they'd had all their starters available.
