Defending Fulmer

You really disproved the point about the lack of negative press prior to his departure. Great work.

Wait. So you need someone to find you negative press about Kiffin prior to his departure from Tennessee for you to believe it? What?

If so, feel free to google the previously mentioned "Kiffin in the SEC".

I posted the Forde article because it was very good.

However you can't deny that he got a roster depleted of talent to play very hard during 2009 and the players were completely buying into his talk. I can't think of another SEC team, including Vandy, that had to start 3 walk-ons in their starting 22 but we did and went to a bowl game and almost beat the NC's that year.

Don't know if that will make him a great coach in the future, but what he tells the kids, they believe it and buy into it.

He probably shows them the amount of players he and Orgeron have coached that went on the the NFL.

Selling a kid on playing for Monte Kiffin isn't very rough either.

Lane Kiffin surrounds himself with great coaches that produce Ws and NFL contracts.

People can raise all kinds of hell about how he left, but the simple fact is he, as you said, took a depleted roster and had them busting their asses for 60 minutes. The lone exception was the Ole Miss game and after Moore dropped the bomb against VT.

Again, I don't give a crap about stuff he said about Urban's recruiting practices during a booster meeting. If there's something actually specific as to how successful our program would have been, I'll pay attention.

I like the wording you use. You obviously only pay attention to the sunshine pumpers that are "actually specific as to how successful our program would have been".

Five in Five, No 2: How bad was that Lane Kiffin hire?

That article basically says that he didn't have enough experience (at 33, coming off an NFL head job) and he talked too much. What a terrible recruiter and coach.

The writer seems pretty clueless about SEC football as well. You're not doing a very good job with this.

So you agree that Kiffin is a terrible recruiter and coach. Good.

I don't hate him enough to lie about what happened when he was here. There were threads popping up daily when so and so from ESPN said we're heading or big things, etc.

And I might have let the comment slide if it weren't coming from a guy that stood behind Fulmer for years when it was obvious his time had past. Now he's criticizing how someone else ran a program. No, that doesn't fly.

How Kiffin ran the program? Or ran from the program? Or ran his smart ass mouth?, Or ran the same play 3 straight times at the goal line against UCLA?, or ran past Frank Beamer after the Chik-fil-a with no congratulations after VT ran over his clueless ass?
Hate Phil guys all you want, it dont matter, but for Gods sake to defend this POS? PuuuuuuhhhhLllllllleeeeeeze!!

Like Dooley did against LSU?

Nice still shot - now please if you can show the whole clip. He never said a word. The only time he moved any faster is when he left k-town and pissed all over these guys on here praising him.

you said he ran past and offered no congratulations. Even in the still you can see he's not running and is shaking the winning coach's hand.

We had this debate when the "snub" first came up and it was debunked then

The fact that this thread is still alive exemplifies the starvation and near insanity of our fan base. Good Lord...

You're right, he's a great human being. Thank God he left UT or General Neyland's legacy would be forgotted forever. Lane Kiffin did make me do something I said I would never do thats pull for Notre Dame to win a game.

sorry but Gen Neyland's record was the goal of another coach (no matter what happened to UT football in the process)

Perhaps the oddest criticism I have seen of Kiffin is that he was too mean to opposing coaches.

Except, what the heck is a superminority?

Exactly.

Q: Why was Kiffin a bad coach?
A: He talked trash to Urban Meyer

I don't quite understand it, but that seemed to be a common response to thoughs about Lane Kiffin's coaching ability.

The difference in Kiffin and Fulmer is drastic.

Kiffin was hungry to win.

Fulmer was hungry for a Krispy Kreme.

The Fulmer Sucks like UTIE and BigOrange have to come up with some kind of garbage to validate their hatred of anyone other than their hero. So, regardless of how stupid it is, that's their argument.

Why so extreme?

All he did was point out that your statement about Kiffin not congratulating Beamer was entirely false.

i will attempt to end this fulmer nonsense once and for all with several points that i would think most could agree with.

1. fulmer did a very good job the majority of his time at tennessee.

2. despite, taking over a program in good shape, fulmer took the program to another level that everyone would love to get back to. the 90's are the standard that everyone is trying to get tennessee back to as most acknowledged that the neyland era ain't gonna happen, but the 90's could.

3. fulmer needed to go. tennessee had slipped as a program and it was time.

4. it will be difficult for anyone to duplicate the success he had for the first 10 or so years as head coach.

5. because of #4, the man deserves respect.

6. because of #3, no one should sit around and cry about fulmer being shown the door and act like everything would be peaches and cream if he were still around.

Right. So, no input on how he ran the program. But his handshake with Beamer wasn't satisfactory. He must suck.

And I'm not sure if you watched Crompton's play that game, but I'd say the odds were better with Hardesty's legs than Crompton throwing a Crompletion.
