Defending Fulmer

Thanks but no thanks. The question was Dooley to win 152 of the next 204, (2) SEC's, One NC. Heck, I like you guys so much, I'll go ahead and throw in losing to Wyoming and Vandy in the same year. Would you take it? yes or no? The whole body of work.

NO CRAWFISHING PLEASE.

Would I be pleased with having two good years, back-to-back, out of the next sixteen? Not really.

Umm. Losing 52 out of 204, I think there were more than a couple of good years. Lets see if you feel that way the third SUNDAY in October.

I'm sure i'llbe feeling that way real soon if Bama rehired Muke Shula.

Really Darth? South Carolina? Never won the SEC only one SEC east title, No NC's. Not really anything outside of George Rogers, you honestly wouldnt take it?

Is it really relevant? SC is not Tennessee and expectations are not equivalent. Also, based on Spurrier's time there it's unlikely Phil would have anywhere close to the same level of success.

I guess its Fulmers fault that Shula was Bama's coach. I guess Phil Jackson sucks because he didnt beat Red Auerbach. Just what I thought, I havent got a straight answer out of anyone.

It was Fulmer's luck. Comparing NBA coaches to college football coaches is senseless.

100 wins in the 90's = two good years? Math teacher, I have a problem I need help with.

We had the best football player in a generation, surrounded by a boatload of talent and needed UF to lose to other teams to get him a single championship.

Like it's been said before, recruiting was great, coaching wasn't.

We won a Nat'l Championship after losing the best football player in a generation. Guess that wasnt coaching either, just "Fulmer luck" huh?

That team was also loaded. We weren't outscheming our way to that championship. Hell, we'd lost to Memphis two years earlier.

Just cant give the man credit for sh(* can you? Admit it. Never a comment from you about a win. Except Lane Kiffin beating Georgia of course. You just cant give CPF any respect can you?

I said he recruited well. The idea that he is not a great x's and o's guy isn't original and certainly didn't start with me. You need to stop debating this topic if you are going to get so personally offended over what a former coach did ten years ago.

Im not offended, hell the guys a millionaire. I just dont understand why no one will give the guy any credit for anything. Why people will defend Lane Kiffin to the ends of the earth, and talk about Fulmer as though he was satan.

OK. As far as the firing. I have never said that his time was or wasnt up. I just dont know. You never IMO do that crap in the middle of the season. I'll catch hell for saying this, but dont you think that had a little bit to do with the Wyoming loss. The team and coaches having to deal with something like this. If it had to happen, it shouldnt have been until the season was over. At that time, put him on point, or release him. I think the guy had a great run. We all saw some great plays and great wins, and I hope they come again, more sooner than later.

The firing right before the wyoming game was probably a main cause for the loss, but I would guess they went ahead with the firing to start the search for the knew coach in order to help recruiting. I don't like Mike Hamilton, but it was a plan ahead move.

Hambone had been planning the firing since the contract extention. The contract was sweetner for the Hambone Machinations.

Now, given that he was planning the firing since the contract extention, that he had to move before the last three games of the 2008 season lest we get a winnable bowl game, and "The Plan" was Lane Kiffin what does that tell you about Hambone?

He was classless doing it mid-season (which, as discussed, he had to do - hoping we would lose a game as a result), he had the firing in mind for over a year, and he hires a coach who can't come to Tennessee without his daddy - to replace the man who won us our greatest NC, and had us competing for the SEC title every three years during a "mediocre" stretch.

You have to forgive KPT and the Gamecock fan. The first has much difficulty when confronted with the real world outside the back door, and the latter is getting over their epic failure of a season (by his own metric).

I have personally never taken any pleasure in a Vol loss, and I even supported Lane Kiffin when he was my coach (I never went stupid over him, as so many, to their shame, did - however, many have made very adequate mea culpas). I did not speak out enough, perhaps, and I will try to rectify that now:

For me, the jury is still out on Dooley. Maybe it was CCS who screwed up the LSU game. Maybe the way Dooley recruits really has us in the Top Three of the SEC in recruiting and not middle of the pack. Dooley is super-bourgeois; he compared my team to the Nazi Army last year; he looks like a Fed on Vol Walk. He hasn't won me over to be fair, but I support him 110%, and I will not judge until enough data from the real world outside the back door exists to make an informed decision.

We aren't at that point yet. Go Vols! Go CDD!
