Defending Fulmer

Exactly! Because recognizing the lucky breaks in the year of 1998 equates to the entire decade of the 90s! At least you mentioned "dumbass".

How often do you even watch football???
Because I have seen many NC teams get breaks who won the title.
But I guess you have your head up your ass every game so you wouldn't ever see it.

Fulmer's success in the 90's had a lot to do with the quality of the SEC coaches he opposed. It's easy to rack up wins against the likes of Ray Goff, Jim Donnan, Jerry DiNardo, and Mike Dubose especially when UT had overwhelmingly better talent.

During the 90's, there were three exceptional SEC coaches: Fulmer, Spurrier and Stallings. Spurrier absolutely owned Phil and Phil had a slight advantage over Stallings. But once the overall quality of SEC coaches began to improve post 2000, Fulmer was doomed.

At least you're now admitting he was lucky. They still count just the same.

The difference? Spurrier, Meyer, Saban, etc., win because of hard work, intelligence, and strategy. No one claims they lucked into theirs. Phil lucked into his.

To his credit, he had them competitive enough where all he needed was the luck.

Please stop!!!
Spurrier lucked out to voters for second chance to play for NC after FSU beat them
Meyer lucked out against UT after a bogus penalty against leak which resulted in Called back TD
Saban lucked out on blocking a last sec kick to win for sabans year. In which I don't call luck but skill
In 98 fulmer never lucked out but had some close calls but their skill level prevailed. Even against syracuse it was a blatant call which transferred to our win. Not luck but skill.
In 98 there is not 1 controversial call that can't be scene as a right call

Take the orange glasses off. You say Saban got lucky on a blocked kick, but you don't think Fulmer was lucky in 98? Have you forgot about Stoerner?

UT was a damn good team in 98, but they had quite a bit of luck, whether or not you choose to acknowledge it. Don't get mad, broseph.

Alright ST, I'm on your side a little here w/Fulmer and his haters that ignore the 90's, but I have no idea what you typed above. I can't figure out what you blanked out with *'s. The word "much". I dunno.

Retarded according to you but no rebuttal whatsoever?
Come strong or go home!!!

I actually think Fulmer's luck balanced out against Arkansas back in '98. The Stoerner play was definitely lucky, but it was a terrible call (safety instead of possession at the spot) on the punt that got us there in the first place.

But we did require an easy FG missed against Florida, which isn't that much different from Bama's block.

i agree about the stoerner play. a lot of people thought the same about the 1982 mike rozier play against kansas.

This is the main point. No one is arguing that Fulmer was not better than the Brad Scotts of the world. I may quibble over putting Fulmer in the "exceptional" category for that very reason. Spurrier was the only "exceptional" coach for that decade to me. Fulmer was a really good recruiter while the SEC was in this coaching lull, and his lack of coaching was masked for many, many years (aside from getting dominated by Spurrier). When the SEC got serious about their head coaching positions, Fulmer's inadequacies showed big time... to the tune of 10-23-1.

Hyperbole. Requires common sense to understand it. Sorry.

I'm gonna go ahead and say that reasonably expecting a coach to give up his job and resign, after several winning seasons and one 5-6 one, is far from common sense. Sure, I think Fulmer had his own best interests as his top priority, but when someone keeps giving you more time and more money I don't think there are many coaches that would turn it down.

So, hypothetically, if someone wasn't very interested in hearing rehashed imaginary futures based on selectively revised past interspersed with incorrect popular culture references and misguided economics lessons that are punctuated with misused and repeated meaningless phrases like GoF, GSM, and bourgeois intended to prove a point based on ill logic that is over two years stale, would there be any reason not to place you on ignore?

I would really like your input. I am having a hard time thinking of any.

Putting on ignore = can't run with the big dogs.

It's as simple as that.

But what I'd like to know is 1. what was the incorrect pop culture reference, and 2. misguided econ lesson.

Ironic.
