Defending Fulmer

Indeed. The shrink can explain to me how losing more games, losing more games by larger margins, losing more often to the top programs, losing more often to the top coaches, losing more often to one's rivals, losing more often to unranked opponents, losing more often to ranked opponents, dropping completely out of the rankings for years on end, disappearing from national relevance, and declining in ticket sales, re-sale prices, merchandise sales, TV audience, game attendance, all while getting sanctioned by the NCAA, is such a wondrous improvement that I should be grateful for his firing.
Shrink could explain how Fulmer had no hand in the drowning too, but it would still be useless and wrong.

The same reason some people can't grasp that it's not cool to tweet a HS kid that you have no connection to.

Yes, and start threads talking about how they gave a former UT player a dirty look.

Like we haven't been since we fired Fulmer. At all. Ever.

Yeah, I'm sure we would have been ranked in 2009 and 2010 if only we had kept Fulmer. We'd have Tajh "Heisman" Boyd under center and our OL would be anchored by all-world studs like Aubrey Phillips. Nick Saban sure would have crapped his pants at the thought of that.

Loved my time with Coach Fulmer and m time with Coach Majors and I would defend either of these men. That said, the Coach Fulmer I played under wasnt the same Coach Fulmer that I saw in the mid 2000's. I wont say that he got lazy, because he certainly always worked hard. When talking to him after a loss, it was almost as if he had the attitude of , "Well we had one get away. Well get em next week". You can only do this so many times before there is no next week to "get em" in.

That's the real world outside the back door, people.

Maybe we would'nt have had 39 players on the field at LSU either.

Well i'll say this..... He'd still be here if the stands were full every game and Tennessee were actually competing with their rivals. That wasn't the case though, as only the big games were selling out and in those games you got treated to massacres on the field. By the time they finally got Phil out he'd pretty much had it ran into the dirt. The shelves were not stocked with talent and the Kiffin"error" just has helped prolong the agony. Anyone with any football smarts saw it coming from way back in the early 2000's, it just took a while too boil to a head.

I guess if you're one of the people who used to have a hard time getting tickets - umm....yes.

No. The real world is the player in the post prior who played for PF, and is on the same page with those that can be objective and are realists. You and vegasgvol are caught in a time warp from 13 yrs ago.

who was having a hard time getting tickets in 2008?

In 2008 I did not get a call from the UTAD telling me that the (2) seats beside my season tickets were available if I wanted them. That truly happened last week. Never thought I'd see the day. But.....We're so much better off without CPF.

Truth of the matter is it wasn't going to be a smooth transition to a new coach, it was 3 years late in the making. Anyone that came in here in 2009 was going to have a tough go of it, that means anyone. It was too far gone already. Kiffin made it worse by high tailing it back to the fruity coast. Why do we continue to rehash this? Some just can't let go of the 90's. The 2000's i'd rather forget, nothing in that decade worth talking about.

thanks for finally understanding. UT football is now able to stop digging and start climbing out of the hole left by Fulmer. Unfortunately it's a very deep hole but we're on our way out and may eventually see the sun again

Yeah. We were killing it in the recruiting and championships department this decade.

He's from the GM school of management, where something that was good once always will be, so you roll ostrich style. And, frankly, some people look better that way.

When you've been driving in the wrong direction and have to make a course correction to get back on track, sometimes "backwards" is the correct answer for the sake of the overall trip.

That's where we are as a program. Deal with it.
