We're super thin at LB and Banks is a huge liability in coverage. I haven't seen enough if Mitchell to know if he's any better in that regard, but he would be hard pressed to be much worse.

Mitchell wasnt very impressive IMO in the limited action he saw last year. Then he comes up suspended first 2 games this year, Im not getting my hopes up he's a Raynoch, JRM or Westmoreland at this point. I'd try him a couple games and if its like LY, I'd play the 2 freshmen LBers as backups.

No way man! Banks is our best linebacker and it is not close
You may want to let him know where he can start playing that way. Banks has been a liability at times this year, looked completely lost. Beasley has out played him to this point.

He's been fine, but I think people are over reacting to his very first play of the season with the int. He's given up a few big plays and picked up a PI on Saturday as well. Walker has been better thus far to me. Neither have been fantastic though, but neither have been close to bad either.
That PI was an awful call T mac played it perfect closed the gap and got his head around but he and Wesley have had no drop off between the 2…

What part of he hasn’t had an issue for 7 games are you not understanding? The kid has in theory grown out of it. I am sure u never did anything stupid at 19
I totally acknowledge his growth.
The rest of the LB corps stepping up will help JBanks stick to his assignments and stop trying to do too much. He should be a much better LB going forward with better support from his teammates.
Banks has matured, I hold my breath when I see him fly to the sidelines with whistles blowing.

As to doing anything stupid at 19. No. I really didn't. I went to college taking a 21 hour load, worked 60 hours per week at two jobs, took care of a dying Grandmother, and had no freaking time to be stupid. Sorry.

Banks makes mistakes as most do. But maybe we should see Mitchell play his first down for the Vols before saying he should be the starter?
Banks has played well so far the last two games. I haven't seen any blown assignments or hotheaded mistakes. I didn't see any boneheaded plays by the entire defense.

After watching bama DBs basically assault Texas wrs I thought that was a horrible call.

At this point he is just depth now. Because there’s no way you can bench Beasley at this point.

Beasley can still be benched, but if he continues to progress then he makes it hard. He has trouble getting off blocks so I think that's why he is a blitz man which he seems to excel at.

He, and Banks still let a RB bust through for 76 yards without getting close to touching him. Banks still busted a coverage on the TE 50+ yard TD.

What have you been smoking? You guys in Abingdon must be getting some of that Bristol landfill stuff blowing your direction.
Don’t smoke weed, it’s counterproductive long term physically and mentally. Have you been smoking it? What makes you think Banks is as good as some of you believe? His performance ratings are below average and he routinely makes assignment errors.

I really don't know how anyone can watch Banks and think he's anything more than an average LB, and probably below average in coverage. That said, we need him if we're going to have a good season. The depth just isn't there.

Funny how he was voted all SEC, guess those voters know nothing

Those plays are really frustrating to watch. The 2nd big run that rb made,(25 yds I think) a pitt OL had banks in a bear hug pulling him backwards, of course that apparently wasn't holding.

Garbage is a pretty rough description

I mean he's pretty bad.

Banks is a thumper. And he's pretty good at it. But it seems like we're forced to leave him in the game during obvious passing situations because we we really don't have any else better that understands the defense at this moment . Maybe once Joseph or Pearce get more comfortable, they can rotate in more. Either way, we gotta find a couple starting caliber LBs through the portal at this spring.

Mitchell had a 2 game suspension for off field issues. Coming off his season last yr, why people are so focused on him at this point is beyond me.

Because he lead Texas in tackles and we need to replace Banks

You do know Joseph and Pearce play an entirely different position right? Dumb post is dumb.

Really? You’re gonna replace YOUR leading tackler (with far more tackles LY than Mitchell had at Texas) with a guy who 1) couldn’t stay healthy and 2) can’t do what he needs to off the field.

That wouldn’t be wise….. and I’m being kind.

Seeing Banks mature and thrive has been a real joy. I think he’s the energy leader on the D side of the ball. Nobody is replacing Banks.
