Potential. He was the leading tackler at TX. And I have been told over and over again that being a good tackler is the only thing that matters when playing LB.
You weren’t told anything close to that. Your insistence that 100+ tackles is meaningless has your brain prone to delusion. 🤪

Really? You’re gonna replace YOUR leading tackler (with far more tackles LY than Mitchell had at Texas) with a guy who 1) couldn’t stay healthy and 2) can’t do what he needs to off the field.

That wouldn’t be wise….. and I’m being kind.

Banks has played horrifically and everyone is looking for reasons for hope. It’s the same reason we all want to see Charles more at corner

Wrong again. 100+ tackles is absolutely good. But it’s the only stat people brought up when defending Banks. Like that stat makes him a good LB. It doesn’t. It’s a part of it. But you do you.

Showed proclivity for interceptions when he was first learning the position. Part of his athletic package.

The problem is that you don't know what his assignment was on those plays. He got his hands on passes a few times in the Pitt game. That indicates they had him filling throwing lanes when they blitzed.... which would mean he couldn't follow a RB or WR sent to "run him off".

appreciate the brevity of this response, and I would give it two likes if I could. One of the reasons I got concerned early in this game was two different times we tipped passes that wound up being catches for Pitt. Had the feeling like we were snake bitten again. Glad it turned out ok.

I totally acknowledge his growth.
The rest of the LB corps stepping up will help JBanks stick to his assignments and stop trying to do too much. He should be a much better LB going forward with better support from his teammates.
Banks has matured, I hold my breath when I see him fly to the sidelines with whistles blowing.

As to doing anything stupid at 19. No. I really didn't. I went to college taking a 21 hour load, worked 60 hours per week at two jobs, took care of a dying Grandmother, and had no freaking time to be stupid. Sorry.

Banks has played well so far the last two games. I haven't seen any blown assignments or hotheaded mistakes. I didn't see any boneheaded plays by the entire defense.
Well actually he blew the coverage on the TE that jumped over #1.

He's been fine, but I think people are over reacting to his very first play of the season with the int. He's given up a few big plays and picked up a PI on Saturday as well. Walker has been better thus far to me. Neither have been fantastic though, but neither have been close to bad either.

The tackle he made on Pitt's first offensive play (I think) of the game when he tackled a WR behind the LOS while being blocked was one of the best tackles I've seen by a UT defender in years. He starts over Walker for a reason and that reason is pretty apparent.
