Dee Beckwith status?

In a 50 point win you would think he would have. This staff may be the worst from the past decade and a half.

That's too early to make this call, but they are building a body of work that must be evaluated at some point. For me it's end of next season to see how it plays out.

I don't understand why you condescending trolls are still allowed to post here.
At the risk of defending a Gator --- he isn't trolling or being condescending. He is, in a roundabout way, saying it is absurd to imply that we have a ton of talent sitting on the bench that Heupel is just - for some unbeknownst reason - choosing to not play. And I agree with him.

It is absurd to think that a person whose professional reputation and livelihood depends on winning college football games would choose to not play the best players.

Coaches can make evaluation mistakes, and it is true that some players execute in games better than they practice, but to think that we have a bench full of those sorts of guys is kinda absurd.

The real Q is. How does TN recruit top 15-20 annually yet never have any talent at all? Interesting how Arkansas and Ole Miss, who have not recruited to the same level as TN seem to be more talented. Interesting how that always happens with TN.

Because we haven’t had a QB. The impact of that position is immeasurable

I remember all the BOOMS from VN when we Pruitt reeled in Dee Beckwith & Malachi Weideman. VN was more concerned about if we don't make a big Bowl will they join the Basketball Vols. They were both 4 Stars in both sports. It just seemed like these tall multi-talented athletes were going to be not good but great contributors. It's either the Blue bloods vett these athletes and don't want or Pruitt paid them and they just didn't practice hard and when the money & Pruitt were gone reasons to stay also left.

Maybe fans and some coaches believe that rating services are not always correct in evaluating players from film and not in live game competition. Also, players go to the portal for a reason; they could not earn playing time at their first location, or they were in academic trouble, or they had other problems either with the coaches or the other players. In any case, getting players from the portal is a bigger gamble than those you recruit. Remember, there are over a thousand players who entered the portal who now have no place to play football or complete their education.

Because you are a negative pessimist? It’s been three games
Let’s see…..
we have 70ish athletes on scholarship
A good portion of those are transfers in
An ncaa investigation hanging over our heads
A new coaching staff
And a fan base that contains the biggest bunch of bitches I’ve ever seen and thinks we should be beating Bama this year.
And when we lose to Bama will be calling for us to hire ……pick your favorite name who would not take over this dumpster fire.
And honestly half the people who got what they wanted would now be calling for that guy to be fired.

It’s a family tradition

There are still morons who think we should have hired coaches like freeze and Kiffin who have losing SEC records and Norvell and Fuentes who are about to be fired because they can’t coach

The post in the OP doesn't exactly strike me as 100% that he's gone.
That tweet could mean anything!

It could just as easily be saying that Dee has gotten the wake-up call and realizes he has to do what the coaches are telling him if he wants to play on Saturdays.

Is there any source saying that he wants to leave? Or is this BVS jumping to the worst available conclusion again?

Well you know Kiffen or Freeze would be competing for a natty this year.

Any new coach is going to be stuck with developing the prior coaches talent to an extent.

Not like teams are signing 85 new players every time there is a coaching change.
No question. With the amount of turnover we’ve had, a thin roster, and all the coaching issues over the last 3 years it is too much to ask any coach to come in and make all that better in one offseason. There are several posters already saying Heupel isn’t “the guy”, whatever that means, after 3 games. As Biden would say, “C’mon man!”

Have to question why some of our highest rated players are not even cracking the 2 deep. Its one thing for 4 and 5 star guys not to live up to their hype or make All-SEC. But as a 4-5 star blue chip recruit, if you can’t even just provide depth as a backup then something is seriously wrong. Culture wise.

We have multiple guys who were blue chip recruits who are hardly seeing the field at all, much less even listed on the depth chart a few of them.

Aubrey Solomon
Omari Thomas
Jackson Lampley
Len’neth Whitehead
Brandon Turnage
Ramel Keyton
Harrison Bailey
Dominic Bailey

What is the deal? You can’t tell me every single one of those guys are busts. I don’t believe it.

So their ranking as high school players is a sure measure of their actual worth as players 2-3 years after the fact?

Gimme the Heupel Scale.

Lets look at the roster.

2017 class, these guys would all be eligible as covid seniors or rs juniors. Class ranking was 17th nationally, 7 of 27 remain with Theo Jackson being the only notable contributor.

2018 class 22 signees, 8 are gone, including 4 of the 8 highest rated recruits.

2019 class 22 signees, plus 4 transfers. 13 of the 22 signees are gone and 3 of the 4 transfers. 5 of the top 6 recruits based on hs ranking are gone.

2020 class 23 signees and 4 transfers. 3 of the 23 are gone and 2 of the 4 transfers.

2021 we had 17 signees and 10 transfers because of the massive losses from the roster. We already lost the most important player in the class due to idiocy in Salter.

So the "talent" here in large part isn't here. You remove the people from those classes that are gone and they tumble into the mid 40s to mid 50s or lower in the 17, 18, and 19 classes. The 2017 and 2019 class with it's losses probably goes into the 60s or 70s.
Thanks for taking the time to compile that.

Unfortunately, a lot of folks here won't let actual facts and data ever get in the way of their opinions.

In today’s environment I would expect a high percentage of kids to enter the transfer portal each year. They are no longer locked into staying. If you don’t get the playing time you feel like you deserve, just transfer. Working harder in practice and the weight room are now secondary options.

I remember a time when redshirt freshmen, who changed positions, would just work… mature… develop… and then get their shot.

Reference the Titans here real quick, but look at their turnaround.Drafted Mariota top 2 and sucked for yearz.Lucked up and got Tannehill for peanuts and kids been top 3 in most categories in the league.Having Henry def helps, but they build the line, got their qb and an awesome rb.Been in post season discussion every sense.RT single handily revamped that franchise when he got here.

Ol' Heupel has studs everywhere up an down the lineup he's not giving playing time.

Is that what we are to believe here?
That exactly what poster around here believe. They can't fathom how an athlete freak can dominate at a high school level then not perform against equaln9r better talent...ranking and high school stats is what many in VN bases thier beliefs on....

CJH allowed Bailey to show today why he was 3rd or 4th on the depth chart..Great high school QB...5* no freaking way, 4* maybe. 3* should have been..even in a blow against an FCS team he did the same thing as last year...no improvement....so maybe just maybe CJH can evaluate talent better the our former peewee superstars here on VN
