Debuts of HC’s We Wanted & Didn’t Get

You seem to be arguing a point, that no one has stated. OP was slamming Frost to losing to Troy with a walk-on QB.

Wait, unless you are saying that we'd still be 2-1 if one if we replaced ETSU or UTEP with Troy, and trotted out Jancek as our QB?
I simply stated that we would still be 2-1 regardless of which QB we played. Since you are looking for a debate and I'm not in the mood, let me spell it out for you. We, the UT Vols, would be 2-1 at this point in the season regardless of what QB on our roster, not a QB on the Neb roster, we trotted out there against the opponents we played. The opponents we have played should not be confused with opponents Neb has played.

I honestly never saw anyone mention Taggart as an option, that I can remember.

A few folks mentioned Frost, but mostly acknowledging that he was probably going to Nebraska.

A few more mentioned Kelly, but I never got the impression that many were serious about him.

The big names on this board (each with at least as many detractors as proponents) were Gruden, Mullen, Miles, Kiffin, and--once Currie started talking to him--Leach.

Kelly would be a distant 6th behind those, with Frost even further in the background. Taggart non-existent.

That's how I recall it, anyway.
Don't forget The Mullet

I didn't want Tee...Not ready and still not ready...Houston I wanted and thought he could build it up here...Someone is going to give him a chance and he is going to do great things in the furure.
Yeah the stuff i heard was crazy like google coach. And 1-AA isnt the same. But a coach who can build a power at James Madison with no rescources would kill it given time at a place like Tennessee. People that said another Google coach arent true football people.

He's toast at Nebraska. Unless he can reestablish a talent pipeline back into California again, and that is unlikely as most of the PAC teams including Cal Berkeley surprisingly, are very interested in football again. There was a time at Cal two things would make you an outcast on campus. The first was wearing your ROTC gear and the other was being a football player on scholly. Nebraska is not going to get a lot of the quality players out of there these days.
Our guy is toast here unless he can re-establish pipelines, well, pretty much anywhere and everywhere.

Chip has a good bit of rebuilding to do, Frost I'm unsure how to feel about him, but Taggart is a joke. Watched all of his games his teams seem unorganized and sloppy. No point in hemming and hawing about who we got because that's the way it is. I feel like we're going to come back into a presence in the SEC in the next couple of years. I feel we have the talent, so after we get some quality coaching in we're going to be back in action 100%. GBO

While most wanted Gruden, our former AD was happy with Schiano and apparently may have offered to Mullen. There was backlash, then they went to Doreon. Then he interviewed Chad Morris (Per Morris--who said he was distracted and told them he thought he was going to be fired) then Leach. Fulmer interviewed Steele, the Georgia DC and Pruitt. Rumors out there about Brohm (Jimmy Hyam) Taggert, (who was holding out for better than VOLS) Chip Kelly and Scott Frost.

Steele is not the DC at Ga. He is at AU. Mel Tucker is the DC at Ga that Fulmer interviewed. I dont think Taggert was ever a serious candidate except on the internet.

Scott Frost/Nebraska: 0-2 with losses to Colorado 33-28 & Troy 24-19.

Chip Kelly/UCLA (my pick cuz of current roster type): 0-3 with losses to Cincinnati 26-17, Oklahoma 49-21, & Fresno State 38-14.

Willie Taggart/FSU: 1-2 with a win against Samford (not Stanford) 36-26 then losses to VaTech 24-3 & Syracuse 30-7.

Just a reminder that super hires like Frost & Kelly are not guaranteed instant W’s.
You forgot Lane Kiffin... 2-1 with a loss to OK. They will be conference champions this season.

Yeah Taggart is in WAY over his head and he'll be fired by the end of next season. I have never seen FSU look this bad and it's not like Jimbo left the cupboard bare. There is talent on that squad but no discipline, or desire.

I know he is at AU, I couldn't remember Mel Tucker's name, so I referred to him as the DC at Georgia.

I like Pruitt, even though I had never heard of him prior to him being announced. Mike Leach was my pick. WSU has scored 100 points in two games. just sayn...LOL

We'd still be 2-1 even if nick saTan was here with his entire staff.

Gotta have the Jimmies and Joes to coach up and that's going to take us 2 or 3 more good recruiting classes to catch up with alaBummer and UGa.

I didn't have a serious choice in the coaching search other than I wanted a serious D guy like the DC from Clemson but I'm happy with Pruitt since he has more SEC and Championship experience.

Serious D is what WINS Championships as we all know.

VFL...GBO!!!

And most likely 2-1 with any of the coaches mentioned in the this thread.

I would have been fine with Frost, but it was clear to all that if the Nebraska job was offered to him, he would take it. Can't blame him for that, and his departure from UCF was first-class (stayed for the bowl game).

Frost faces a rebuilding job on par with, if not bigger than, the one at UT. Doesn't he have a walk-on starting at QB?

Come back in 2 or 3 years and see where Frost has that Nebraska team.

Go Vols.

Why are we supposed to wait 2 or 3 years for Frost to turn it around, but CJP should have instant success?

You left off Gruden and he’s 0-2!

He has a walk on starting NOW. I remember some bull some posters were trying to sell that early NFL entrants AND Dormady were “recruiting failures” by Pruitt. What do you call flipping a 4 star QB recruit (with an extensive injury history) and failing to assure at least one or two of the other scholarship QBs in the roster that they still had a legitimate chance to play? Frost announced the starter fairly early (unlike Pruitt...key MORE VN irritation) and set this path. I agree that he’ll be successful, but there were hints of a “first time HC” in his handling of the situation imo.

I’m guilty as charged. I wanted Kelly bad and quite honestly, once he gets the kids he wants at UCLA I think that they will be throwing up some big numbers. That being said, I’m happy with Pruitt so far.
Kelly’s upcoming class looks kind of pitiful. What’s the time frame of this “kids he wants” theory?
