Samson and Barnes love this kind of guy. Both of them understand basketball completely differently then the average fan. Can you set an effective screen? Can you box out properly to give yourself the best chance to get the rebound? Are you willing to dive on the floor for 50-50 ball and refuse to lose it? Do you put the goals of the team above the goals of yourself? When you are defending, does your intensity make running and offense difficult for the other player or team? When the chips are down and things are going wrong do you still have your head up? Are you willing to submit to a bigger plan and train yourself to change so that you can get better every time you step on the court?

Most fans or players: Can they shoot the three from the logo? What's their vertical? Can they throw down a monster dunk?

I thought Mashack just left the offense to the "shooters", maybe just going with the plays as designed. I like the way Boswell finished his drives last night, avoiding blocks, unlike a couple that Gillespie tried.

What I don't understand is why some of you guys constantly bash players before any of them have the chance to develop. Barnes knows what he wants in his players. That's why he gave them the scholarship in the first place.
Our keyboard coaches were proven to be idiots again. Happens every year in every sport at UT.

Samson was definitely raving about him. But the funniest part of that post game was where he talked about Nate Ament making a huge hustle play on the putback late in the game by running ½ the court. Then he said "and our guy didn't hustle and got beat". They guy who got beat was the kids sitting to his left hand and had his head down listening. I doubt Samson has a clue! 😂

Nah, I guarantee you, Samson knew exactly who didn't hustle and got beat. Just like Rick, he remembers defensive plays

Part of it was Mashack not wanting to shoot. He shot 36% and 35% from 3 his last 2 years. Better than ZZ in both years. He just wouldn’t shoot it as much.

I definitely have to eat crow on him too. Late in the game when he was fouled and went to the FT line, the camera zoomed to his face. He had the look of a stone cold killer. I’ve never seen that look on Boz.

Kind of a guard version of Rodman, just a rare bird that enjoyed impacting the game through defense more than proving himself an offensive player to, even though he couldn’t help but prove he kinda was.

I remember Ament getting hacked big time once on the perimeter with no call. I THINK we eventually scored on that possession but replay showed a clear arm hack by Fleming( I think)

One could argue that many of Mashack's shots were with him wide open and uncontested.

Meanwhile ZZ would be the one to want the ball with the shot clock winding down and in situations that had a lower probability of success.

Part of shooting is having the confidence to want the ball and create shooting opportunities. Both Mashack and from what I've seen from Boswell, have shown tendencies to hide around on the perimeter and are always looking to immediately pass.
