Deal With It

Funny how you gloss over the "play good defense" part as Richardson makes the All-SEC defensive team for 2014. His role was to normally stop the #1 offensive threat on opposing teams every single night, while Jordan took the lesser offensive player. In the 4 games you mentioned against UK and UF, he held Young and Frazier below their season average in 3 of those 4 games.

I didn't gloss over it, I said he played good defense. There's just a lot of revisionist history going on here regarding Jordan and Maymon. Call out the other posters for making up stuff about those two, not me for telling the truth about Josh.

Jordan played good defense. A defender that makes the 1st team All-SEC plays exceptional defense.

You're going to have to actually think about the situation. Why wouldn't he want to leave, especially for that job?

He obviously wanted the job or he wouldn't have interviewed for it. What sounds better? "I wanted the job and didn't get it" or "I'm pulling my name from consideration".

It's a political move.

I love how our fans start assuming that conjecture is fact. All that we have heard is that he removed himself from consideration. But somehow our fans are now absolutely certain that CCM wanted but didn't get the job. How did we get to that assumption exactly? Wow. I can't imagine how often some of you started rumors in high school.

There are hundreds of reasons why someone would go talk to someone about a job which they are being recruited for...and then decide that they are not interested: Money? Family? Atmosphere? AD situation? Facilites? Talking to last coach? Recruiting class? Extension/raise from current school? Gut feeling? Attachment to current players? Etc...

Nothing "remarkable" about beating Umass and Mercer. 2.9 years of utter mediocrity then a kind draw and all of a sudden he's john wooden.

You guys are in for a rude awakening when he loses Pearl's recruits. Reality sets in next year. Enjoy it.

They beat the team in front of them regardless of who it was good lord people

I suspect the wanted part comes from Martin flying 700 miles on a Sunday to meet with the guys who could give him the job.

It's frowned upon to go an interview for a job in the coaching world when you have a job. It's especially insane if you don't plan on taking it if offered.

If you're trying for leverage for extra money, your agent telling Hart you have this opportunity should be enough.

So you question my use of the proper superlative but are fine with the people who called two of our three most consistent players this season inconsistent?

The original post I responded to didn't say "support your team". It was saying something far different....all based on the fact he beat umass and mercer.

Our fan base has lost their minds over those two wins. Gonna kill us in the long run. It starts next year, folks.

Wrong...Our fan base lost it's mind with a retarted petition. Don't kill the season before it starts. smh

Lol two players on the entire team were Pearl recruits and one backed up his son when Pearl was here, with the other needing a redshirt. Where do you Pearl lovers come up with this stuff?

You're using 2.5+ years as your basis for your stance, they're using a 10 game stretch.

This "2.5 years" nonsense is wrong and you know it. Tennessee exceeded expectations in 2 of the last 3 seasons - oh yeah, you better believe I'm counting this year.

Also, we can stop with the revisionist history of UMass being some scrub team.

You really think this season exceeded expectations?

What were your expectations?

What are they for next year?

They played like a top 15 team and got extremely unlucky. Pomeroy ratings don't lie.

Luck is mythical.

Every loss they had was because they made mistakes they shouldn't have. No way Vandy or A&M should have even been close to a position to upset us.

I personally would love to enjoy an entire season again at some point. The last week in the NCAAs was fine, but it's the other 4 months that have been stumping us.

Incorrect. Maymon's turnover numbers were better all season long than they were in his break out year Zo's first year. He was only turning the ball over 1.4 times a game in the first 16 games of the season.

McRae was the picture of consistency. He scored 16+ points in 15 of the first 18 games.

Josh had 9 games where he scored 6 points or less during the first 18 games. He averaged 5.25 points per game in the 4 games against Kentucky and Florida this year.

Here's a fun fact. Jordan had more blocks, steals, assists and rebounds than Josh this season.

Josh played good defense, had an occasional good night during the season and had a hot tourney. But he's the one who was inconsistent this season, not Jordan. Josh would have 4 points one game and 14 the next, then 2, then 12.

So McRae scored more but we lost more those games. He starts passing like Martin had been coaching him to and we start winning and he scores less. Hmm

Yea cause J rich is awful and armani Moore is the worst defender we have had. GTFO

No, he scored fine the rest of the season too. He actually had fewer games under 10 points the rest of the season. But the person I was responding to said that he and Maymon played poorly early on in the season. He had 26, 26, 17 and 24 points in 4 of the next 5 games following that stretch.

Then 31, 20 and 29 in 3 of another 4 games a bit after that.

Rock steady, got the ball all year, took the shots, scored the points. Averaged a team leading 19.4 a game in the NCAA tourney.

Correct. But it doesn't speak to Cuonzo's ability to lead and sustain a program. 2.9 years vs. wins over umass and mercer. Keep it in perspective, people.

They beat the team in front of them regardless of who it was good lord people

Funny thing, that it was our fan base that was the joke of the media this season.
NOT, our coach or our team.
But maybe some enjoy being pegged stupid or uninformed.

Beating umass and mercer is not solid evidence of anything except an extraordinarily kind draw. The 2.9 years leading up to it is all the evidence we need. And of course next year when cuonzo goes 1 out of 4 even making the tourney.

Again, you guys have lost your minds on those two wins. Just lost it.

SEC preseason predictions in Martin's first year:

Preseason Media Poll Pts
Kentucky (18) -- 282
Vanderbilt (4) -- 265
Florida (1) -- 235
Alabama -- 219
Mississippi State -- 191
Arkansas -- 154
Ole Miss -- 119
Georgia -- 108
LSU -- 91
Auburn -- 80
Tennessee -- 71
South Carolina -- 57

This team lost 5 of its top 6 scorers from the previous year, yet ended up finishing tied for 2nd. Is this season part of your 2.9 theory, because expectations were definitely exceeded. Keep your perspective.

Who cares where we were picked? Shows the SEC media doesn't know basketball. Can't call a season a success when we didn't even make a 68 team field. Need to hang your hat on something else.
