Why not Dabo then? Oh that must not fit your stupid narrative.

Or Kirby for that matter? the feeling of doom is a must for some people. If Pruitt gets UT back to where we belong why would he wanna go to Bama and follow their legend? He could win at a .850 rate and be deemed a failure.

2 coaches over 8 years is frequent? Also, it's on the coaches to develop the talent.

5 coaches in 11 years but perception is in the eye of the beholder. Some coaches love a challenge, therefore they get all the praise if they turn it around. SC used to be the place coaches go to die. Spurrier changed that. Vandy had that title, Franklin changed that perception as well. It’s Pruitt’s turn to turn the ship around.

Tenn is a mid tier football program now at the very best a 9-4 type school think Arkansas or Kentucky and Mizzou. When will you fans finally realize that and make peace. The 1990’s are never coming back and I’m confident to say although I’m not yet 40 years old that I will never see my Vols win another SEC title or national title. Our rich tradition is a relic of the past much like Army and Navy and Minnesota’s football programs are.

Dang dude, SunnyVol, not too sunny.

Most schools go through this. We were spoiled with the longevity of Battle/Majors/Fulmer. Those coaches spanned 38 years. Unheard of these days. Consider this: Stoops is the old man of the east now. Times have changed.

You could have said the same thing about Bama before Saban landed there. The 3 Mikes weren't loved there (Price,Dubose,Shula), Francione gave some hope, but under the threat of NCAA violations, he bolted in the middle of the night.

Don't believe the thread title. Not true.

I Think Pruitt gets fired for that. Like Mark Richt.

I, for one, would be happy to fire Pruitt after going 10-2 for 4 or 5 seasons. Just like Richt, it would mean the cupboard is STACKED full of talent and right on the edge of playing for a national title.

It's reality. We badly need this new coach to hang on for at least five years to dispel the notion that Ut is a coach's graveyard. This year is a mulligan. We need to be bowl eligible every year after that. 9-10 wins most years, similar to what Miss did under Freeze, would be ideal ultimately. We are out of the running for East championships for the foreseeable future, but lowered expectations can result in happy upside surprises!

Freeze cheated to elevate Ole Miss to the success they had. Tennessee has the resources to get it done the right way, in the right fashion. We just need stability in terms of leadership, which has been non-existent for many years now.

Good point, and if "they" will leave Fulmer in place and let him do his job (and if "they" don't then they're even bigger fools than they've shown thus far), then all that other mess can sort itself out at the higher(?) levels and Fulmer and Pruitt can go about building the next powerhouse in Orange & White. (This correspondent here does not think your average 4/5 star high school player gives a rat's rear about who's UT's President, Chancellor or Provost or how long they've been in their job.)

100 percent Vol just a realistic one. I don’t live in a fantasy land like some fans on here do thinking it’s still 1998.

I lived through Bear Bryant's run of the SEC also and many like Sunny Vol said Tennessee would never beat Bama then either but they did. This isn't much different.

Tennessee has done everything they could to destroy their program (bad hires, etc) but it's still here. It will come back again, hopefully soon. Bama is riding high cause winning is #1 to them. For Tennessee, winning is about 10th right now. Hopefully that will move up some

And the one thing we all have in common is enjoying the warm waters... Perhaps Butchna captured it best, the urine-warm flow of e-cred

Then maybe find another hobby besides following Tennessee football. I’m not that optimistic about the next few years, but at least I have hope that better days are ahead.

We play in the SEC, have the 5th largest stadium in the country, great practice facilities, great history, great fans, and is easy to recruit to. I believe Tennessee is a great opportunity for a coach that can utilize talent and is a high achiever. We can get the talent, just need to get the most out of it.

We haven't overachieved in a long time. You see guys like Fuente, Frost, Mullen, and even Kiffin achieve with mediocre talent...thats what we need out of Pruitt. A coach who will squeeze as much talent as possible and put his players in a position to succeed...

It's on the AD to find coaches who can develop talent and be successful. Our problem was hiring a string of amateur ADs using the B school model. Teach people who know nothing of a business to be administrators there. The only people sufficiently knowledgeable to be AD are ex football coaches. Football because if any sport pays the bill for athletics, it is football.

Maybe so, after 34 years of stability with Majors and then Fulmer, UT has lost their way with the hirings of Kiffin, Dooley, and Jones.

But, it can be turned around with the right guy at the top. If you don’t believe me, just look at Alabama before hiring Saban. They hired coach after coach trying to find the right guy.

I think the combination of Fulmer and Pruitt will get the Vols back to the SEC Title game and beyond.

UT lost the way with the hirings of Hamilton, Hart, and Currie. We did pretty well during the reign of Woodruff and Dickey.
