Dead End University?

I guess in your world, one years success is the eternal goal. One banner to wave threadbare for 50 years. In other peoples, it is sustained success. Staying competitive. The kind my grandparents enjoyed under Neyland.

I remember the 98 championship, and relished it. However, I also remember the hows and whys of things getting offtrack under Fulmer. I hated him getting fired, but had no delusions about it being undeserved.

Now that he is AD, I hope and pray he learned from his shortcomings so he might foster sustained success. But if he isn't going to make a sustained run possible, I hope he rides off into the sunset soon. For now, it seems he might be building it the right way. I hope it lasts this time.

You are not so good at guessing.

I don't call a person a failure for only winning 1 NC. Sure he failed in 2005 and 2008 to make a bowl and got fired. Neyland has set the high water mark. 0 points allowed. This can't be beat only matched. Just as Fulmer coached an undefeated team to a NC. It can't be beat only matched.

I hope not but wonder if the UTn is beginning to be lookd up on as Dead End University. Coaches we hire and fire with noticeable frequency. Though they do do get a big chunk of money out of us before leaving. The AD mess and players with potential going undeveloped and undrafted. I just wonder how we are perceived these days.

Best redirect to questions or discussions on this topic: The use of post-circumcision infant foreskins in producing skincare products. Cite Oprah's endorsement of SkinMedica face creams, which obtain their active ingredient from infant foreskins. Press on by questioning cosmetic uses when infant foreskins have been better utilized in developing treatments for diabetic foot ulcers and venous leg ulcers. Accelerate the discussion by wondering if there may be promise for the recover from wounds caused by flesh-eating bacteria. This red herring will push UT's leadership woes right out of everyone's minds.

One 9 win season in the next 2 years or so would make all this gloom a distant memory. All would be right in the world.

Our opponents probably think “kick em while their down and keep them down”. Our fans are hoping the new staff can turn the ship around and start increasing in wins over the next 5 years leading to better bowl opponents and victories. Hopefully really good high school students want to come to UT and build a championship program.

b2b 9 win seasons.....not 10. and a 9 win season with HUGE expectations. not the same thing.

Exactly, with more wins comes expectations. A 10 win season likely doesnt include any type of championship, so no, that equity would dry up very quickly.

Some posters just want to feel bad....

I don't feel bad at all. 0-12 next year wouldn't surprise, phase, or depress me even slightly. It would be great to be relevant at some point in the future, but as long folks think things aren't that bad right now, we can continue with the mediocrity. The athletic department is happy when you're happy.

Would be interesting to see how you come to the conclusion that someone that doesnt share your opinion on a message board about a football team "wants to feel bad?" Just curious?

Wow, even I think this thread is negative.........and that’s saying something

It's more rediculous than negative. A job that sets a person up for life is a dead end?

If a coach can't win a NC at UT, they are doing it wrong. Coach Fulmer has proven that it can be done.

0-12? I better bring my ETSU hat to the game just in case.

What exactly is an inbred-thren?

Name calling and bad spelling, that's quite the social calling.

Name calling and bad spelling is one notch above trolling on a 0-8 team's site on the social calling meter....

And Imbred-thren is a combination of imbred and brethren...

This has got to be the most depressing thread yet. Why all the woe is me stuff? New staff, new HC, new AD, new Chancellor and soon a new president. What happened to the honeymoon period? You guys are sounding like you are negotiating a divorce.

We’ve seen this movie before.

Dooley is hired. What a pedigree! Son of a hugely successful SEC coach. Worked under Saban in the NFL. This guy is anointed and destined for success. Sure hope UGA doesn’t come after him when Richt leaves.

Who said that after Dooley went 4-8 at LA tech?

The coaches we get will be as good as our administration. You can bet candidates call recent coaches and ask what kind of support they get. Fulmer has already done a lot to make this place conducive to hiring better coaches.

Tenn is a mid tier football program now at the very best a 9-4 type school think Arkansas or Kentucky and Mizzou. When will you fans finally realize that and make peace. The 1990’s are never coming back and I’m confident to say although I’m not yet 40 years old that I will never see my Vols win another SEC title or national title. Our rich tradition is a relic of the past much like Army and Navy and Minnesota’s football programs are.

I wish you would step back from that ledge my friend. You should cut ties with all the lies that you’ve been living in.....
