From all accounts, it seemed RS was the guy. Footballscoop reported it, ESPN insider reported an "ACC coach for DC" and even Hubbs was going back and forth about whether he was contacted.

Now we are left with some possibilites, however Skeeter has said that the hire will surprise people. Zook seems like he is headed to Auburn, and Bennett seems like a logical hire, but maybe Dooley has someone else. Skeeter, LWS, SpringBok, DeerPark, please comment with info that you have. Let's hope this thread becomes reliable.

I just hope its all true. I admit, I have bought into the hype of Randy Shannon and think that would be a great PR, recruiting and splash hire.

Am I crazy?

The way things are going with our beloved Vols lately, I wouldn't be surprised if it was something absolutely silly like trying to get Cutcliffe to come home from Duke to run our Defense. I mean hey, we tried to make a left handed center hike with his right hand, we had a coach famous for coaching QB's try to run the offense and handle the RB position and we thought a defensive coordinator from the west coast via Boise State would be a medium term solution for our staff. I am losing faith.

You have 12 posts too many

At this point Shannon would be a surprise.
Lots of misinfo out there; its hard to know whats real and whats not.
At this point there is NO credible info on who we are getting and i think our AD and coach want it that way.
Word will leak out the day of the announcement and not before.

It seems like the only one who really knows is cdd and the ad.....

I dont even believe they know. It is hard for them to know as most realize this could be the Dooley Swan Song. Hard sell to elite defensive coordinators. Let Lance Thompson take the job and call it a day. It is much easier to find a coach for a one year contract for a position coach.

UT please hire someone so the daily DC hunt recaps can turn into record prediction threads with new DC and approval threads.

I was on the record a week ago saying absolutely nothing reliable was pointing me toward Shannon as the hire. Nothing has changed my mind.

With Dooley, the only leaks you're going to hear are those that come from close to the candidates, and that's what was missing here. Everyone wanted to say their info came from major boosters or those inside UT, but those people don't have info under the Dooley regime.

If Dooley was as good at coaching as he is controlling information, e'd have won the SEC this year.

There is so much mis information coming from inside I honestly have no idea.

But I will stick with RS. There was so much pointing to him last week.

I honestly can't wait for this to be over so I can get the whole back story. It should be a good one.

I agree SBV. And there has been no denial of interest from the other side.
I think the full story will be pretty interesting, if we ever get it.

You think they are leaking names to cover the trail?

I dont have SBVs contacts but that would make sense Beecher IF indeed RS is THE guy.
It also allows us to round out the staff with face to face interviews in SA.

One other thing, there are so many college coaches in SA right now that comings and goings of any coaches would not be of particular note. RS being an out of work college coach I would think would have been planning to go anyway. Its not like interviewing for a head job where you do the cloak and dagger stuff as detailed in Clays book; all the potential candidates save for two teams still playing, are right there.

Not exactly, Shannon himself denied the rumor to Chris Low today, who reported it on his radio show.

When tomorrow's 1 PM Presser/Non-presser comes around a VN meltdown will be in order.
