The rumors of letting CJJ go have been around for a while. This wasn't a knee jerk reaction, at least not in the last few days

As much as the DeBord hiring perplexed nearly all of us, it proved to be the right move, so maybe it's not a total fantasy. The offense wasn't perfect, but there is no doubt it ranks among the best ever at UT, especially in the running department, evening if it wasn't classic "pounding the rock."

Apparently it has been an escalating off the field situation that went from questionable to bad to worse and CBJ had enough. Definitely was not unexpected or a knee jerk reaction.

A few hours before or even Monday morning would be optimal for coverage and exposure I think. Wouldn't be surprised if over the weekend though but IF I were the coach I would announce around Noon on Monday if its all done.

Would be huge for recruiting imo. All the recruits in the country will be watching that game, and watching when it scrolls on the bottom of the screen that "Tennessee hires Bob Shoop as the defensive coordinator, replacing John Jancek. "

Apologize if this has been answered elsewhere, but what was the off the field situation? I've heard numerous references that this is an off the field issue but never heard what actually happened

Not to be negative, but I think you are overstating the impact of this. While it might help with a recruit who already has a relationship with Shoop or someone who is on the fence, I don't see it impacting recruiting that much. Also this news can get lost in all the noise of the championship game Monday night if you step outside of Vol Nation.

I just do not feel comfortable publicly posting about that but several people in the other Jancek thread "nailed it" based on what I heard.

It wouldn't make any sense to fire JJ to upgrade to a guy like Hoke whose defenses has been nothing more but average. Good recruiter, sure but we also need good coaches and not just recruiters. You hire elite coordinators like Chizik or Shoop to make a championship run in 2016.

If Butch hires Shoop, he'll be able to say he improved the opportunity for any recruit to play on a championship winning defense. He can point to tangible, objective data showing that Shoop has coordinated the #14, #19, #23, #2, and #14 defenses the last 5 years....in both the SEC and Big 10 conferences with far less talent than Tennessee will have on the roster next year. How much impact that will have? Don't know. But it's definitely more than he had to sell before with Jancek running the show.
