He is not his defenses never made top 3 at San Diego state while he was coaching. He is a recruiter plan and simple. He goes in and builds programs. He is not a guru or Xs and Os guy. It would make more sense to hire him under Shoop than as a DC. Sunseri type of hire if as DC.

How does that have anything to do with who we hire to replace him?

Again I fully believe it is Shoop and will be hired until someone publicly says it's not happening. I believe there is at least an agreement in principle in place already. VQ lists Hoke as #2 choice and overnight he is the most likely candidate to a lot of people on here. Is that just battered Vol syndrome?

Probably

My point is that if he was fired for on-field reasons alone, then there would be every expectation that his replacement would truly be an on-field upgrade.

If he was fired for off-field or character issues, then it increases the possibility that his replacement would be a character upgrade but potentially not an on-field upgrade.

But hopefully, they can co-exist!

I would figure that you wouldn't be so damn sure about Shoop, especially considering the Gruden saga.

We want to believe CBJ (and Hart) is willing to fire a solid DC, and friend, to upgrade and take this team to the next level because it's all about winning. That's still a fantasy until proven otherwise.

I knew someone had to go there I have refrained from posting a lot because I would have thought people were past that now. This is a lot different situation and I am just saying what I believe as a fan. Not sure how long one has to pay for getting sucked into that debacle along with a lot of other former and current (at the time) players, former and current staff members etc...

What I mean is I am not going to read a VQ article that lists Hoke as #2 and draw the conclusion that its all of a sudden Hoke because we never get the guy we want like many posted overnight lol.

Not trying to give you grief, I got basically the same info from people back then as well, so I know it was legit and was out there. Just saying, might not want to be so adamant about it because this stuff changes every minute and until he is announced, its not done....at all.

Agreed man, that was a dark moment and I left VN a long time because of it. I was embarrassed.

I definitely see your point and yes, anything could happen. I am basing my opinion off a fairly large number of former players, staff members and media members I know and talk to on often a daily basis. I am no "insider" but in the course of supplying vehicles to many UT staff members, sports media people and former players no one has eluded to anyone but Shoop and all seem unified that he is the guy. Several told me that last week but I never posted it because I never want to be one of "those guys" again. That is what I am basing my opinion on and the reason I believe it to be Shoop until I hear otherwise.

It is what it is though lol.

Thanks for your info bcarter. There are others in the recruiting forum who are echoing what you are saying so hopefully this works out and Shoop is hired. Also even though Hubbs mentioned Hoke as number 2 and sent panic to volnation, he also said in so many words Shoop is far and away number 1. I can't imagine that Hart and Butch would let Jancek go at a critical time without having a sure thing almost in place. Hopeful but still nervous until it is announced lol!

I don't have ANY info, but if something happened "off the field" I can see Butch canning him immediately without any thought about what his next step would be in replacing him.

It seems like the off the field issues have gone on for a while and a respected insider in the RF mentioned that Jeremy Pruitt was even contacted back some time ago which took everyone by surprise. Now it makes sense, I personally believe Butch had a plan for some time now and this isn't a knee jerk move.
