DC Candidates?

Well thought out and I pretty much agree... I would probably put Chizik in the triple category IMO... I'm not familiar with the Houston DC, but it seems lots of people give him a lot of credit for the FSU game and downplay Chizik for his bowl game. IMO, Shoop
Is the only HR on here...

Most prominently mentioned DC candidates and how I'd rank them...

Homerun:
Shoop - SEC DC experience. Excellent track record. Last year, LSU was willing to break the bank to get him and Penn State broke the bank to keep him. Auburn was willing to break the bank this year to get him. They know something. The bonus is that he could also prove to be a huge asset for recruiting next year's potentially historic in-state class.

Chizik - SEC and championship experience as both DC and HC. Everybody goes on about Muschamp as this big SEC defensive guru, but Chizik's resume is every bit as good if not better. Would probably be a few hundred thousand cheaper than Shoop and more likely to keep existing defensive staff members. That bowl game vs. Baylor is what sticks in everyone's short term memory, but it's only one blemish on an otherwise outstanding track record.

Triple:
Chavis - SEC and championship DC experience. Solid track record. VFL. But 3rd and Chavis and recruiting rep are a couple knocks against him.

Orlando - The hot name right now. Runs an attacking defense that capped off a nice year at Houston by shutting down FSU despite a huge talent discrepancy. A couple very good years at Utah State prove this season was not just a flash in the pan either.

Double:
Marion Hobby - Co-DC on a team playing for the national championship this year. VFL. Was DC for Duke, but that limited stint at DC is kind of difficult to gauge.

Randy Shannon - Nice track record, championship DC, and seems like a high character guy. The question here is, what has prevented him from landing a DC job at a major program the last decade or so?

Single:
The dude from OK St. - Not bad, just... meh.

Foul ball:
Hoke - No DC experience and no SEC experience. Of all candidates mentioned, Hoke would have the greatest potential for a Sunseri level fail.

Maybe overlooking Hoke, his entire coaching philosophy has been built on the defensive side of the ball. No direct DC distinction but his entire family grew up with a focus there. I think he would amount to a triple, with the addition of his recruiting experience, head coaching experience at the very highest collegiate level.

I have sat through too many of these coaching searches.

Had to Google Dooley.
Got concerned over Sunseri.
Got prepared for Lovie.
Got stoked over Gruden.
Got let down but still ok with Strong.
Got blind sided with Butch---but now happy I must add.

Point is....I will wait this time before believing we pull a big name.

............I had to google kiffin............

He isn't the head coach. Penn state offense didn't help much

They also dont have near the talent we do, not even close, at any position. Can't make chicken salad out of chicken shhhh.... people seem to forget the recruiting limitations psu was under. Shoop would be a great hire.

Best 2015 stat is 4th down conversions allowed %

PSU 2 allowed out of 13 attempts - 15.4% - rank #1
TN 18 allowed out of 24 attempts - 75.0% - rank #124

To be fair. The same northwestern team ran for over 200 against Stanford. Same Stanford team held Iowa to under 50. Its a body of work you have to go by..

Go blown out by MSU, Mich.,OSU,and lost to NW a team we destroyed, UGA whom we beat, and Temple. There is his body of work. So how is this an upgrade from jancek? Jancek D held NW to 6 points and 261 total yrds. If you play in B1G he's might be an ok DC.

I don't think you know what "body of work" means.

Pretty funny how you keep skipping over his three years in Nashville.

Maybe he got blown out by those decent teams because he really doesn't have decent talent to work with. That is not the situation here at UT. We are loaded and have WAY more talent at every position. You seem to forget the recruiting limitations handed down by the ncaa on PSU.

His body of work for the last 5 years(2 at psu and 3 at vandy) all five years his defenses have finished in the top 25 in total defense. 4 of the 5 on the top 20 and once finished 2nd. This with Penn State and Vandy talent. Pretty impressive to me.
