DC Candidates?

According to Penn State guys, Haslett would get DC if Shoop leaves

Yeah it's sounds awesome if he came with shoop but doesn't make much sense....

Of course it doesn't sound like he is making much more than a GA at Penn st

If that does happen it would take pastic surgery to take the smile off my face as I absolutely hate Penn st

I have sat through too many of these coaching searches.

Had to Google Dooley.
Got concerned over Sunseri.
Got prepared for Lovie.
Got stoked over Gruden.
Got let down but still ok with Strong.
Got blind sided with Butch---but now happy I must add.

Point is....I will wait this time before believing we pull a big name.

Probably not today, possibly tomorrow, realistically Saturday, and it's plausible Sunday imho

I would think, if there is anything to be announced, it will be real soon or wait until after the championship game. They won't want to take attention away from the game, or have the announcement get lost with game hype.

Most prominently mentioned DC candidates and how I'd rank them...

Homerun:
Shoop - SEC DC experience. Excellent track record. Last year, LSU was willing to break the bank to get him and Penn State broke the bank to keep him. Auburn was willing to break the bank this year to get him. They know something. The bonus is that he could also prove to be a huge asset for recruiting next year's potentially historic in-state class.

Chizik - SEC and championship experience as both DC and HC. Everybody goes on about Muschamp as this big SEC defensive guru, but Chizik's resume is every bit as good if not better. Would probably be a few hundred thousand cheaper than Shoop and more likely to keep existing defensive staff members. That bowl game vs. Baylor is what sticks in everyone's short term memory, but it's only one blemish on an otherwise outstanding track record.

Triple:
Chavis - SEC and championship DC experience. Solid track record. VFL. But 3rd and Chavis and recruiting rep are a couple knocks against him.

Orlando - The hot name right now. Runs an attacking defense that capped off a nice year at Houston by shutting down FSU despite a huge talent discrepancy. A couple very good years at Utah State prove this season was not just a flash in the pan either.

Double:
Marion Hobby - Co-DC on a team playing for the national championship this year. VFL. Was DC for Duke, but that limited stint at DC is kind of difficult to gauge.

Randy Shannon - Nice track record, championship DC, and seems like a high character guy. The question here is, what has prevented him from landing a DC job at a major program the last decade or so?

Single:
The dude from OK St. - Not bad, just... meh.

Foul ball:
Hoke - No DC experience and no SEC experience. Of all candidates mentioned, Hoke would have the greatest potential for a Sunseri level fail.

Here's a look at North Carolinas defensive stats in 2014 and then in 2015 under Chizik.

2014 to 2015

Total defensive ranking =120th to 35th

Pts per game = 38.9 to 22.6

yards per game = 495.7 to 411.3

pass yds for the year = 3162 to 2529

rush yards for year = 2786 to 2818

Ints = 12 to 17

Seems like massive improvement to me.

The players were all mostly back and a yaer older and stronger too.
