DC Candidates?

Have you ever read the book "The System"? It's an in depth look at what goes on behind the scenes at big time college football programs.

You really should.

Not only is there a whole chapter devoted to UT (and it isn't pretty), but there are multiple little references to (and I'm paraphrasing) how coaching is a small fraternity and schools are often looked down on when they are trying to fill spots that aren't officially open yet. In fact, one of the anecdotes was about how Hamilton had contacted Mike Leach's agent in 2008, and Leach's agent wouldn't even discuss if there was any interest without the job being vacant (if memory serves).

Maybe I am alone, but I just don't think there is a great and powerful Oz hiding behind the curtain, and pulling all of the strings, of every decision made in college sports. While 24/7 sports coverage needs something to talk about, and these sorts of ideas take root in that vacuum, I tend to prefer Occam's Razor. The simplest solution is often correct.

Sounds like a good read I may order a copy never heard of it.

I was reading this on Tony Basilio's website. Thought it was interesting.

1. Tennessee IS willing to offer a multi-year contract (3 years).
2. Money is no object. Tennessee will go high (LSU range) for the right guy.
3. Bob Shoop is alive, but he's far from the only candidate.
4. Gene Chizik could be in it, but how do you sell this post-bowl game?
5. Could Brady Hoke be an off the radar candidate? Could happen.
6. Hoke and Jones have relationship, and he spent time here last summer.

Brady Hoke would actually be an awesome pick-up if Butch could swing it. The only question is whether he wants to be a DC given that he was a Head Coach (with a significant amount of success) for 12 years. Also, funny enough, he's never been a DC at the college level. He went from being a D-line coach for several years to being an HC at Ball State.

The interesting thing here: Hoke would likely be the easiest sell in the locker room. Remember that Darrin Kirkland was originally recruited by Hoke at Michigan and only came to UT after Hoke got fired.

Butch went against Shoop liked what he saw and kept tabs on him...a la like les miles did with his new DC...man I hope this really happens

Philadelphia (Pa.) Prep Charter defensive tackle Karamo Dioubate has decommitted from Penn State, Lions247 confirmed on Thursday afternoon. The four-star prospect originally pledged to the Nittany Lions in August.

The 6-foot-3, 279-pound prospect took an official visit to Auburn in December and has also been in touch with Michigan State and South Carolina about taking official visits in January.

Dioubate was among the top-rated recruits in Penn State’s Class of 2016. A four-star prospect by the 247Sports Composite rankings, he is the No. 5 prospect in Pennsylvania and the No. 18 defensive tackle nationally.

He was an all-state selection as a senior in 2015.

Why would Hoke be awesome? He has never been a DC in his career.

He's interviewed for the DC position at Oregon today.

Don't get your hopes up too high.

Far too much of the book is dedicated to Saban.

But...there are several chapters that blew my mind, including the stats behind athlete rape, and the whole untold story of UT's hostess-gate (including how close people on a message board were to getting sued).

Well it would make sense as Saban may be one of the best coaches to ever hold the position even though I loathe where he coaches lol.

You do have to be very careful what you say on message boards though, and that is why many people are very vague. I believe this to be true, imo etc... when they know for a fact something is true or not true. I know I tread lightly after getting sucked into a situation before.

This is what I know. Jancek was not the best person off the field. His and Butch's relationship has become strained and was getting worse. His wife hated it here and wanted out. Jancek was also not well respected amongst some of the players. One player was even rumored to transfer because of Jancek and the way he acted. Butch has spoken to Jancek about his issues but he apparently did not learn anything from those discussions and he was let go.

Interesting

Didn't stop Aranda from signing up with LSU. Great hire by LSU. Don't find a way to demean the hiring of Shoop. TN fans rationalize too much. We had to rationalize 10yrs of putrid football I get it, but now is the time to stop. Shoop, possibly, chooses TN over auburn and lsu. We don't take a backseat to nobody. We fell down, in the mud isn't our place though

I'm surprised Arranda took it, but LSU had every chance to get rid of Miles & afterwards is when Arranda took the job. He also has a guaranteed 3 yr deal making 2x-3x what he previously did. You are right, we don't take a backseat to anyone, but situations dictate when someone leaves and take another job. Fit has a lot to do with it, maybe Shoop didn't think he fit at LSU or on Miles' staff. I wouldn't look too hard into other than he declined LSU and AU

Earned my trust with this post 100%. Issues with CJJ were not on the field.
