DC Candidates?

I guess Chizik would be ok. But who knows. I have to put some faith in Butch. I said Debord would be a terrible hire and so far, Butch has proven me wrong.

I would be ok with Chizik as well. Don't think it would be an excellent hire though IMO. Then again, he had some good defenses at Auburn who won a National Championship and is supposed to be a pretty good recruiter. I'll trust Butch on this one.

I was thinking about recruiting as well. At least he has quite a bit of experience in the SEC. That's a plus.

Ever think maybe UNC gave up 600 yards because they have no talent on defense? You can be the best coach in the world, but if you have awful talent it doesn't matter. Can't make chicken salad out of chicken sh1t. That plus Briles is one hell of a good offensive coach and he has tons of talent and speed.

Burch has done his best to right this program, and I'll trust his pick whomever it is.

Agreed. The Baylor game is literally the only argument I have seen anyone come up with. It's just just one game against one of the best offenses in the country in his first season on the job.

First season and huge lack of talent up front and all over that defense. Chizik would be a fine hire.

I think it's between Shoop and Chizik. I say that because if you are willing to fork out the money for Chavis then might as well fork it out for snoop. Chavis could retire at anytime. Plus his A&m defense didn't turn heads this year. Shoop is young and energetic. He has made a great defense with very little talent. Chizik is waiting on his next HC offer imo.

Actually, we're only technically hiring Chizik. As soon as the contract is signed we're trading him back to Auburn for Pearl.

It's actually a remarkably balanced trade.

I lol'd

There is a downside to Chiz, and that's if he turns in a top 10 D which is probable he will get offered a HC job and now you are back to looking for your DC.

But, assuming what you say is true, that would mean that we finished in the top 4 at the end of the year. National Champs, perhaps!?! If that were the case, the norm would be to lose a coach or 2 (i.e. Cutcliff).

I would take that any day.

True. ok bring him in.

Completely fine with Chizik, if that winds up being the case (and who can argue with Wikipedia and "buddy" Twitter posts?). Big name, good recruiter, good D coordinator (he had nothing at UNC and still knocked over 100 yards off per game). Sure, Baylor put the hurt in them, but he didn't have the horses to stop a Baylor. He will here.

Wouldn't be upset if he isn't the guy, either, assuming there's a big name signed to an orange contract in his stead.

How about Bo Pelini?

Him and Butch would probably never get along. Just a hunch, and have really nothing to base that on. I'll take Chizik right now, and with him, a few of our recent decommitments will probably come back. And possibly a few other high profile recruits.

I don't want anyone who runs a 3-4. don't have the bodies to run it and don't have the time to learn it. talk about sunseri part 2... 4-3 and solid recruiter.

Here's a look at North Carolinas defensive stats in 2014 and then in 2015 under Chizik.

2014 to 2015

Total defensive ranking =120th to 35th

Pts per game = 38.9 to 22.6

yards per game = 495.7 to 411.3

pass yds for the year = 3162 to 2529

rush yards for year = 2786 to 2818

Ints = 12 to 17

Seems like massive improvement to me.

Yes with WAY less to work with than we do.

Well lovie smith is available could be a possibility if he wants to coach college again, only thing is it would probably be a short term hire.
