I'm not LWS's attorney by any stretch so asperse your butt off. But hearing rumblings and making an absolute statement that ends up being wrong are two different things.

On Todd Orlando? Real intrigued and impressed with his past year. Anybody else realize we were beating the crap out of his Utah State D the season before?

Rumored indiscretions aside I don't see parting ways with a guy you've worked with 5 years and that has top 40 defenses for guys like Chizik or Orlando. Solid hires if Jancek walked but that isn't what happened.
Shoop or get off the pot imo

If you are a junior CB in high school do you want to play for Shoop, Wilcox, Foster or Lovie Smith?

Yep that's a worry. Granted, 14 of our 38 points that day came off of turnovers and short fields and they did hold us to 2.8 yards per carry. But our offense had 3 long drives on them for TDs and that was a relatively talented defense.

I mean, UT should always beat a team like USU and all, but I remember coming out of that game not being too impressed with their defense.

I would be ok with Lovie Smith. I think it would be a good hire but not a great hire. If Butch's goal is to win championships, then I would rather have someone like Shoop whose proven to have elite defenses the likes of Penn St. & Vandy. Either way, I'll trust Butch with whoever he hires.

Heh, I think he already spilled all the beans he's got this afternoon. He flat-out said that no one on Rocky Top is returning his calls right now; they're keeping pretty close to the vest on this one (and all the coaches are out of town recruiting).

I mostly agree. I do think Chizik is a better DC than Jancek and that Orlando has the potential to be a top 15 guy once he's had more experience. But you don't fire a DC who has been solid unless you know you're bringing in much, much better guy.

I could see that being part of the reason Jancek seems upset about this as well: he could have found out that Butch had been orchestrating all of this behind his back for weeks and had already lined up a new guy before he even met with Jancek.

That's my take. Look at the Debord hire. Butch stroked it like a Violin floating his name in advance. Same way Shoop was floated out there. Different circumstances but with the added emotional baggage of ditching a guy you worked with 5 years, and who did reasonably well all signs point to grand slam hire. Or Jancek going full retard behind the scenes...
