David Reaves

I think Reaves is doing all he can with him. He sets down with him after every series and discusses what happened and tries to make adjustments/corrections. Crompton just can't play. That's all there is to it...

I think Reaves sucks. I thought so from the day he was hired after seeing SC's QB's last year...

I think it was only because he's family

I've always been a little worried about this guys coaching ability, I know he is a great recruiter and I know that JC is terribad, but is it just me or could this guy also be a little bit responsible for the performance tonight? His only coaching job is QB's so i would imagine he spends more time with JC than anyone else. Look at how much better Garcia is playing tonight. I know hes family and all and it may be too soon to tell but so far hes not doing so hot.

I agree, I think it's fair to expect our QB play would improve with a new staff. It hasn't.

It hasn't because the talent level at the position is still awful. It will improve when we get better QBs. Tyler Bray is a good starting place.

Reaves has little to do with a player that doesn't execute on gameday in my opinion. The weak part of the staff is Crompton.

I don't think any coach could turn JoJo Crompton into the world-beater we hoped for today. It sure as hell didn't help his fragile psyche when the fanbase booed him. Reaves deserves a lot more than Crompton and 2 games to decide whether he is competent.

Reaves was the recruiting coordinator for Spurrier at South Carolina. Get off of his back. It's not his fault that he doesn't have a competent QB to work with right now.

because he couldnt make a mental midget a competent and confident QB?

He looks just like last year and Reeves didn't work here then. Coaching can only accomplish so much. At the end of the day, JC has to read the field and make the throws and he has shown no ability to do that.

Explain to me what happened from 05-06 when Randy Sanders was fired and David Cutcliffe took over as QB coach. Overnight Ainge becomes a good QB?

You can't tell anything about a coach's ability based on a career at USCjr. I want to see what Reaves does with Bray. Our current QBs are a lost cause.

I'm with you there. I know the coach can't take the field for the QB, but it's no longer the system that is screwing Crompton up, he's just not seeing the field very well at all -- missing wide open receivers, forcing the ball, not seeing DBs. That stuff should be correctable IMO. At least kept to a bare minimum. We have two QBs also. If you can't coach one up to where you want him, at some point don't you have to start working on the other one?

How can they correct him missing wide open WRs? Some things just aren't correctable. He cannot mentally be a QB. It's just not there. They have tried to build his confidence back up all offseason. They give him easy dump off passes to get him in a rythym. They talk to him after every possession, trying to find out what he is thinking and try to make adjustments. They baby him as much as they can, trying not to crush him. You don't see them on him on an INT like Gran was on Bryce when BB ran out of bounds. None of this works. The kid just doesn't have it mentally...

I agree with your second point and I think the staff sees that now. Stephens is our QB. I don't think he will start the UF game, but that will be Crompton's going away party. Nick does not have the measurables or the athleticism that Crompton does, but he is more mentally stable. And that's what we need right now. We don't need a world beater who's going to have to try and win games. We just a need a guy who isn't going to lose the games...

I'm hating your sig...
