You assume that Dooley was hired to only win football games. However, I content that he was hired for the many reasons (including but not limited to);
1. Bring stability to a very unstable situation after Kiffin left after just 1 year (he has done so).
2. Recruit, recruit, recruit (he has done well so far with 2 top 15 classes, 1 Kiffin's that he held together and another top 15 possibly top 10 to come).
3. Get the program past the NCAA investigations (he has done that also).
4. Win football games (until Kentucky last weekend he has won every game he was supposed to win.).
You may not like him and you may think he is the worst football coach ever. However, up to this point he has done most things he needs to be doing to get the program back on top. Firing him now would only put UT back a couple more years in that process. JMO

Let's cut the BS. He was hired for the same reason Fulmer was fired. Because we need to win football games, go to bowls, and national championships which brings the school money.
I don't think Fulmer's firing was so cut and dry. Yes, he lost games. However, he also let things get very lax (poor recruiting, players getting into trouble, etc..). Bad publicity doesn't look good for an institution like UT. Also, I'm not exactly convinced he had a plan to turn things around which is probably the reason he did get fired.
Dooley inherited a huge mess, both with the lack of quality and experienced players, and with the overall structure within the program. But I think he has a plan to get out of that mess, and will do so given the chance.
And which of those things was the top priority. And since when is winning only the games you are supposed to win, and none of the toss-ups, an acceptable outcome?
Does that plan involve talking crap about the team in public until a good number of them hate his guts?
What has he said that wasn't true? Personally, I don't think he should talk bad about his players in public and I wish that he wouldn't. However, the case could be made that making them mad will either make them better or force them to leave. In either case, it might be a win/win for him. IDK

Dooley and the ENTIRE STAFF has the full support of...
AD Hart and the power-boosters...per Hart himself.
Hart said he recognizes that Dooley has been in a very difficult position and that this was YEAR 1...and that Dooley will get 3 more years.
Best thing he said: "its funny how coaches suddenly become great coaches when they have a senior laden team".
You guys amaze me. Thank God none of you run any major corporations or are in positions of authority/decision making.
Dooley should get 2-3 more years. He will get 2-3 more and deserves too. He has the makings of a great coach. If Hart did say this, which I doubt, it's the right call.
How long does it take to turn a ship the size of UT football that was nearly beached to begin with?
1-2 seasons? Forget it. This program is not going to get some "big fish" and hell, I don't want someone's leftovers either.
I said this before and will say it again, if UT were a stock I would be buying all of your shares at cheap prices just to sell them back to you in 3-4 years at much higher prices.
