Darnell Wright: just don't give up on us

One thing I don't understand is all the fans love for this guy. He does not love the fans back. That's what amazes me. He is the most fan unfriendly coach in the history of the program. He called out the fans in the spring game when he first came. He did not want to do the Caravan and go out and meet the fans across the state. His first season on Vol calls was a mitigated disaster. Fans would say hey coach glad to have you here welcome to Rocky Top and there would be dead silence on the radio. No "I thank you for your comment "or "I'm happy to be here". Bob kesling would actually have to prod the caller to go on with his question to end the silence.
I have no personal need to like him or feel that he likes me.

I work for a very successful pharmaceutical company. And I didn't get where I got in life by accepting mediocrity and setting low standards.
Then if you are that successful, stop donating and maybe it will have that extra punch that will achieve the agenda you want. You should also lay out your plan for fixing the problems at UT in less than two years ( I will be generous and give you two years instead of 17 games) It must be detailed and guaranteed to accomplish a winning program within that 15 game timeline. It can include any coaching staff that you will guarantee will come he under the knowledge that they will be fired within 17 games if they do not produce results to the entire fan base's liking.

I don't trust him. He's part of the problem. He threw Randy Sanders under the bus. He stabbed Johnny Majors in the back. So far this hire has proved to be a disaster. This could be the worst football season in Tennessee History and isn't it coincidental that it's the first year that Fulmer is in charge. It's his hire. Once again we have to take emotions out of things and look at the facts which is very hard for a lot of people to do. Anybody would tell you that the talent that He had when he was coach was so far ahead of about anybody else in the conference he should have won three or four national championships and possibly five or six sec championships. He had Peyton Manning and lost to Memphis with the guy. He's not this big savior.

Who really gives a sheet about what or who you trust??

Ok. Lets get real. You seem to be one of the many Vol fans who are stuck in the 90's. Let me explain. You probably still feel like we are Tennessee and losing isnt acceptable and we should be competing for championships. Is that about right? If thats the case then you need to let the past go. We are not that program right now and havent been for quite some time. I believe we will get back there eventually. When? I have no clue.

Now you have stated that Pruitt clearly doesnt have it after what, 17 games? After taking over the worst football program TN has ever fielded? And thats evidence that he doesnt have it? Thats pure conjecture and you know it. Now he may not have it. But its way too early to tell. You talk about keeping horrible coaches right? Well firing coaches is one of the biggest reasons we fell this far.

So who would you have realistically hired if not Pruitt? Especially since we have heard that multiple coaches turned us down.

He's an arrogant SOB who makes his living selling the company line to MDs while hiding any semblance of negative information about the product.
He confuses reading a script with actual intelligence.
And his wealth gained from deception has filled him with complete arrogance!

It's a waste of time dealing with this dude....he's maybe barely above the level of scum-sucking bottom dwellers aka as lawyers...barely.
I've dealt with them for 30 years as a pharmacist....and have had to deal with the fallout of their misinformation from MDs over those same 30 years.
if you challenge the validity of their company "canned" presentation--you get nothing but arrogance and condescension.

Or maybe, some of these young guns got a huge shot of confidence by going toe to toe with Georgia for a half and even though the score got away from them and Georgia throttled them, I saw young guys like Wright, Henry T. And Morris, still fighting, still scrapping and still taking it to the dawgs, late in the game. Maybe these young kids took a step in the right direction on Saturday and maybe we witnessed a changing of the guard on Saturday, in that the old regime(cancer) players took a back seat and these young guys stepped up and took control of this team and are ready to start fighting for The BIG ORANGE! Maybe these young guys stepped up and said to themselves, this is my team and I’m tired of losing. I saw a blip of life out of this program on Saturday, I saw fight from a bunch of young guys who were very out manned, I saw guys that never quit and that gives me hope for this program, going forward. Call me a sunshine pumper, an optimist, I don’t care, because I call myself a VOL, and come Saturday, Mississippi state shouldn’t be able to hear themselves think when they take the field at OUR Neyland Stadium! Look, I’m not pretending to turn a blind eye to the state of this program, but I completely expected this team to quit and lay down the rest of the way. Instead they punched Georgia in the mouth in the 1st round and now players are tweeting for us not to give up on them. That’s encouraging to me.
GBO!!

Well said, the majority of fans I believe are 100 % behind the whole program.

The players and other coaches around the country can see it but we live in a world now where the computer makes everyone experts. I would love for some of these gurus that spew their venom go face to face with their subjects.

Did it ever occur that keeping a horrible coach could be burning the program to the ground? Everybody's got a different opinion of what could fix the problem. Some people think sticking with the status quo is magically going to make this coaching staff great someday. Other see the writing on the wall and know that you either got it or you don't and obviously Pruitt doesn't.

You use the word "obviously" but I'm not convinced you know what it means. Perhaps, you just meant that as an exaggeration.

If it were "obvious" then everyone would have that opinion. In fact, some people do not have that opinion. So, perhaps it isn't actually obvious.

What you meant to say, more likely, was "I don't think Pruitt has it." It's your opinion, not fact.

Also, the people who really know believe this is a top 5 coaching staff, top to bottom. Obviously, they just need time (see what I did there).

I just don't see any evidence on the field.

If this is truly your opinion, then no amount of "evidence" will change your mind.

If you really think 2018's OL was better than 2019 - then you can't be convinced of anything.

If you think that losing all the starters from the DL is something that TN had the depth and experience to magically replace, then there is no convincing you of anything.

If you think that 98% of people that predicted JG to have a better year were stupid - then no one can persuade you differently.

If you can't appreciate that our leading tackler (HT) wasn't on the team last year - I guess you're just smarter than the math.

If you don't see Austin Pope, and the amazing job he's done blocking this year - then I can understand why you think BN is nothing more than a recruiter.

If you don't notice that our defensive secondary has had some issues outside coaching and effort (suspensions, injuries, etc.), and is playing okay despite relying on third stringers and TF - well, then you should go try out.

But, I'm sure you're real smart - and know a lot about football. If you haven't seen ANY evidence on the field, I guess it doesn't exist.

You're unhappy. None of us are happy. But we don't need his "love" nor does he need ours.

He's not unfriendly. He just speaks his mind rather than serving up some politically correct bs that the PR department (or a drug salesman) would prefer. The Caravan was an outmoded waste of University resources designed for a time long gone by. Vol Calls truly is a waste of time meant for the same 25 callers every week who ask or comment on the same issues every week and then hang up and listen.

We don't need a radio or TV personality. We need a football guy to coach a football team. We've got a football guy and it is entirely too early to know if he will be successful as a coach. I see progress. You don't. But it really sounds like you don't like him because he isn't a smooth talking snake oil salesman, not because he isn't showing progress as a coach.

In keeping with this threads original theme, here’s another go at calming everyone down with the smooth, mellow, mid 70s sounds of David Soul:

Mike Leach called his player fat, dumb, happy, and entitled...that is the way to win young men over....
he is on his way out at WSU.....
Les Miles is a grass eating has been....
I would have to disagree that Leach is on his way out at WSU. They love the dude up there

Hopefully by now, Darnell Wright, Brian Maurer, and the other Vols who tweeted about us Vol fans not giving up on them, should know that the vast majority of true fans are 100% behind all the men in Orange who give their all for Tennessee.

Dave Loggins sang a song in the late 1980's called Orange Memories. I don't recall much about it other than it reflected on the first 100 years of Tennessee football and all the ups and downs. There was mention of Coach Neyland as well as the tragic train wreck that took the lives of three UT coaches including Coach Majors' brother Bill in 1965. The one line that resonates with me is "we've been there before and we'll be there again." This I truly believe and I will always will. For those who Vol fans who have never heard the song, it will bring tears to your eyes and make you want to run through a wall.

To the young men who wear the Orange today, I am optimistic that you are part of getting UT back "there again". We have your back. Always.

Beat MSU! GBO!!

Our O-Line is young overall and improving but they don't need to become content, they need to continue to push and get stronger. If they truly want to see the rewards of their work it starts with them, we now have a young Qb that appears like he could develop into a good qb. What we need that O-Line and Qb do is grow together over the 2nd half of this season and the off season. Pass blocking is much better, but I expect them to get stronger and with experience we need our run blocking to get better. Keep moving forward O, work even harder now. Defensively these guys have to look at each other and continue to get stronger and we also have to recruit bigger stronger players up front on defense. I will reserve totally bashing our db's even though it is perplexing of just how much cushion we give recievers, with no pass rush to speak of it is tough on db's for sure. But when there is no pass rush and plenty of cushion of space for receivers you aren't going to win many games against good teams. We have play more aggressive on the backend without the stupid penalties. We also need to learn how to disquise a simple blitz better also. I will quit now. GBO!!!!!

Clearly, the smooth, mellow sounds of David Soul are not working...........
