Darius Thompson is gone.

How do you figure, calculator?

Just purely speculation, but I figure that these guys may turn out to be better producers. Also, I think Tyndall brought in people he knew could run his system, I don't know if Darius could have. We'll have to see how it all plays out.

Also I left out Hubbs before, so there's plenty of competition for limited spots.

Not that Thompson was spectacular, but I would definitely prefer him at starting PG over anyone else currently on the roster/coming in IMO. Who knows, maybe Chiles or someone else will be able to fill the role or possibly be more effective than Thompson would have been:dunno:

With guys like Baulkman, Chiles, Mostella, and Punter coming in, there wasn't much room left for DT to be here. Granted he could have stayed, but probably would have been overshadowed by these guys. DT just didn't produce like he could have and one of these guys can hopefully step in and do so.

Maybe he will benefit from a change of conference/style of play. I'm interested to see how he does against teams like Duke, NC, and Syracuse. He's always welcome back though if Virginia needs a whoopin again. :acute:

Thompson had a better future in this system as a PG than any of those you mentioned, so I don't think he was squeezed out, but perhaps he felt he wouldn't be given the benefit of doubt from Tyndall as a result of asking for his release and then subsequently returning.

Also, he's going to a different conference, but not a different style of play necessarily. Bennett's system is a slow, grind it out, defensive-minded system not too dissimilar from CCM's (unless you meant different from Tyndall's, which DT didn't give much of a chance).

Maybe we'll never know, but we WILL find out what our new players can do

If he was 100% set on leaving he wouldn't have told Donnie he would consider TN. JMO

Brent Hubbs said this morning on 104.5 in Nashville, that in his opinion, that from the time that Darius asked for his release that his full intention was to transfer, which he has now done.

I would also point out that every kid who asked for his release from UT/his LOI, has left and will not be a part of the Vols bball team. The only one, of the guys who it was originally reported might ask for a release, who did not actually ask for his release, is Hubbs.....and he's the only one who remains on the team.

Yeah that's pretty much what I was saying right around the coaching change. If they were that unsure about the decision, I don't think they would have asked for releases that quick. They were probably set on transferring from the get go.

I didn't get that from his post. :hi:

Oh ok, so when he said "2 pts and 2 assists per game while being benched isn't a great freshman year in my book but good luck to him" it was just general bashing, and not a response to [Darius Thompson @dtomp15 10m]
"I had an amazing freshman year... And that's why it's hard to say goodbye..... 😔 #thanksforeverything"?

Essentially, it hurts to lose our only semblance of a PG, but it's not like we lost the second coming of CJ Watson. The kid was decent as a freshman and his court vision was his biggest strength, but he had a long way to go in nearly every other department to become a difference-maker at PG.

In the end, was his available talent worth the hassle when you consider the dramatics with his father, his obvious preference for CCM, and his alleged dislike for Tyndall's "in your face" approach? That's something we may not know for several years, but right now, I think you can argue it's 50-50 at best. CDT needs guys who are 100% committed, and I don't think anyone can argue that Thompson was.

This x 1000. We don't know what Tyndall said to Thompson or his dad. We don't know what Tyndall has said to any players. Players are going to do what is best for themselves. Players rarely commit to a university anymore and I get that the players loved Martin, but it's glaring to lose 4 recruits and 2 players already on the roster. I believe it's a combination of them not knowing Tyndall and Tyndall maybe letting them know that they might not fit into his plans. Who knows. Wherever Tyndall goes though, there is a pretty big roster transition in his first year. He knows what type of player he wants.

Thompson would've been a good player by year 3-4 with the right coaching. Was he ever going to be a guy that breaks a defense down or puts up huge stats? Probably not. His strengths were his court vision and smarts. His biggest liability was keeping the opposing player in front of him. He'll have to improve on that if he ever wants to be a better player and see more court time.

No need to bash him. He was our best passing pg since Watson. He would have been good here. Best of luck to him. 2 assist in his minutes is impressive for a freshmen.

So does he qualify for Vol for Life status?

2 points a game............jump ship when things changed he didn't like apparently.................found another team to go to that will soon leave him at the end of the bench.

My God, He's going to UVA. Granted Cuonzo et al beat them by about 100 this year (which no one cared about for some reason), but UVA was a top five team.

DT is and will be one hell of a college player.

The other recruits all went to really good basketball programs.

And they were all good guys, good program guys.

But alas . . .

:salute:

if you believe he was even considering Tenn then I don't know what to tell you. he was gone the minute he asked for his release and the only reason he told Tyndall that he would consider Tn was to keep the door open incase he couldn't find a school that was comparable to Tn in his own mind.
Plus his father told him not to make a rash decision, one that he might regret. I have no ill feelings toward Darius or anyone else who left or didn't sign. IMO, we upgraded the overall roster, when all was said and done and that's what matters in the big picture.

No VFL but perhaps CFL (Cuonzo for life).

Wishing a kid good luck is general bashing? Saying DT should've stayed and could've thrived is bashing?. Go get a Kleenex and flip a pizza. College ball is for the strong of mind and you can't handle it.
You've turned into a damn crybaby
