I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but UT generally ranks fourth in the SEC east and fifth in the SEC in law schools. UT does have a very good law school, but in rankings it generally falls behind Vandy, Bama, Georgia, Florida, and Kentucky (yes, Bama AND Kentucky).

On a positive note, Phillips' admission will not affect UT's academic rankings.

I am a grad student but I always considered UTK to be in the league of Florida, Alabama, Virginia Tech, USC, and Georgia; am I wrong?

No, I love Dooley! He is a UVA Guy- my wife attended UVA. I knew and rooted for Dooley to get the job when Lane left. Plus, he is a Lawyer. I am at UTK Law!!! I want him to succeed and be there for a long time!!!!

They are eating up applications (mostly transfers) right now, so I am sure throwing one in was not tough to review quickly.

If you don't know the reason, don't say we know what it was. Let it go until facts are released.

We do not know the specific reason but "academic purposes" was the general reason, which does entail a lot of information; some arbitrary and some meaningful. Nonetheless, it really does not matter. I just was asking if the academic requirements were different, and if anyone believed it to hurt UTK's reputation of being a quality academic university- the consensus, intelligent, answer is NO!

If you thought we were in the same league as Florida or Georgia academically, you haven't been paying attention. Go look at the rankings. Florida's a really good school. Georgia is good. We're better than we used to be, but we're still way down the list.

(As a UTK alumnus and the father of two kids who are growing up in Georgia and are eventually going to have to pick a college, this grieves me.)

Thanks, thats what I was wondering. I am a graduate student at UTK, and did not know much about the undergraduate program.

Yeah, I am well aware of the ranking. The Kentucky ranking was in US News and just happened this year- mostly because UTK Law is very honest about its job placement.

I was accepted to law schools ranked as high as 20 overall, but UTK was exactly what I was looking for in a law school. I got in state tuition and a scholarship, which means a lot to me when I weight 30K in debt vs 200,000K in debt. UTK Law also has a great loyal alumni base, there is no substitute for that qualification. I love UTK Law!!! Even though I did get into some top Law Schools in the SEC and other schools in the East. In my heart, UTK Law is the best for what I want to do; Business Transaction and Dispute Resolution.
