And what does this say about our academics? Is Florida that much better than us when it comes to academics? I am a grad student but I always considered UTK to be in the league of Florida, Alabama, Virginia Tech, USC, and Georgia; am I wrong? I did not expect us to be Virginia (UVA) or even Vanderbilt when it comes to academics, but at least Florida... am I the only one that is a little reserved by this news?
Man, the football fan inside is happy; but the academic feels horrible. Did we just make our school an academic laughing stock? Recent polling shows academics as rising in the mind of recruits. Look at UVA, Vandy, USC, Stanford, etc to see their signing classes by using academics as a weapon. Is UTK out of the realm of using the "check out our academics" argument when signing recruits?
Doesn't the burden of academics fall on the students? How many alumnus chose UT for their academic achievements over the fact their standards afforded them a chance at a higher education. Correct me if i'm wrong here but when was the last time UT was ranked top 20 in academics?
Fulmer and Chavis were reduced to building DT's out of HS DE's. IIRC, Kiffin didn't sign a true DT.
Fulmer once correctly said that DT's are worth their weight in gold... this more than RB's, WR's, or the more glamorous positions is a sign of UT being on the rise.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but UT generally ranks fourth in the SEC east and fifth in the SEC in law schools. UT does have a very good law school, but in rankings it generally falls behind Vandy, Bama, Georgia, Florida, and Kentucky (yes, Bama AND Kentucky).
On a positive note, Phillips' admission will not affect UT's academic rankings.
