If you thought we were in the same league as Florida or Georgia academically, you haven't been paying attention. Go look at the rankings. Florida's a really good school. Georgia is good. We're better than we used to be, but we're still way down the list.

(As a UTK alumnus and the father of two kids who are growing up in Georgia and are eventually going to have to pick a college, this grieves me.)

Doesn't the burden of academics fall on the students? How many alumnus chose UT for their academic achievements over the fact their standards afforded them a chance at a higher education. Correct me if i'm wrong here but when was the last time UT was ranked top 20 in academics?

Not sure if already posted but the staff wants phillips to drop to about 35-40 lbs. Most likely to play DE.

Football season just can't seem to get here quick enough! So glad Dante is going to be wearing orange and white and will get the chance to smash some gators to the turf at Neyland!!

UT has never been ranked within shouting distance of top 20 in academics. Even if you only count public universities.

This year, Florida is 58 in the overall list (including private universities). Georgia is 62. We are 101st.

EDIT: Alabama 75. Excuse me while I go slam my face in a car door for awhile.

Vanderbilt, uga and uf are clearly the sec top 3 school's in academics. UT is still a tier below these schools.

Fulmer once correctly said that DT's are worth their weight in gold... this more than RB's, WR's, or the more glamorous positions is a sign of UT being on the rise.

Fulmer also used to say that the two most crucial positions when building a championship level team were QB and DT. He said if you're team is good at both of those positions, you'll win a LOT of football games.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but UT generally ranks fourth in the SEC east and fifth in the SEC in law schools. UT does have a very good law school, but in rankings it generally falls behind Vandy, Bama, Georgia, Florida, and Kentucky (yes, Bama AND Kentucky).

On a positive note, Phillips' admission will not affect UT's academic rankings.
