Danielson: TN least ready to win tight games

I never thought stupidity could be transmitted by close contact but I may have to rethink. Clearly, Gary has been working with Verne too closely for too long and has been infected.

His Mizzou dark horse pick is reasonable. Mizzou is a decent offensive line away from being a contender. Defense is elite, RB position has vastly improved, QB will be better as will the receivers. We also got a legit threat at kickreturn, something we lacked last year. It all hinges on the offensive line

Our offensive coaching staff has also improved.
As long as we continue to upgrade facilities and win, we'll be here for the long-haul

Honestly, I don't see Mizzou winning more than three sec games this season. Having offensive line issues halts all
progress on that side of the ball. Good def will keep you guys close but not enough. JMO

Fans may worry when it gets close to the wire, but at the end of the day, they will be there cheering.

The biggest problems last year were a lack of depth and defensive coaching.

Shoop solves that.

Coach Jones is the HC, he is the administrator, thus much more of game day is up to the coordinators and the players.

Jones did his job by getting Shoop.

I think Danielson is obviously wrong...who really cares what he thinks?

Mizzou and S. Carolina will be battling for the last spot in the east. I honestly don't know who is worse. My gut says the cocks

Missori will be 2 and 4 after their first 6 games losing to West Virginia , LSU & Florida on the road and losing to Georgia at home. Then the rest of season they lose to UT & USCe on road and Arky at home.
They finish 5 and 7 just like last year book it. Their QB could only be good if they had the best OL in the SEC. He is about as mobile as Matt Simms was.

Well they also had one of the worst offensive lines in the conference last year...so he might not be that bad.

Especially if that defense is balancing out another worse-than-FCS level offense this year.

While I agree fans can not catch, block, pass or tackle, they can impact the mental aspect of the players on the field during the game. They can also cause distractions to the team and coaches through out the week causing them to lose focus and concentration that they need.

Winning the close games requires one to have confidence that they will win the close game. And that confidence needs to be there by everyone associated with the team. It is one thing for non supporters to say "they can't win the close ones" - it is very different when those that should be supporting you say that.

Exactly. If our offense had been "bad" last year we would have been a challenger. But it was putrid

I think we will begin the year with a bad offense but will pick up steam and confidence as the backend of our schedule softens. I do not believe we have the talent to win the east this year (I said the same in 2014 btw).

Really we are ahead of schedule. Just need to get a bowl here and continue to upgrade our facilities. If anybody thinks players don't want to come to Columbia they are mistaken. Odom has done a surprisingly good job in recruiting and getting solid transfers.

When I think of lundquist one thing comes to mind

Gary Danielson is a really quick, bright play-by-play analyst. He can see a play once, live, in real time, and know what the OL is doing, where the QB is looking, whether or not the RB picked up the pass block, etc.

In every other facet, the man is an idiot. How many times did he repeat the ol' Hobnail Boot story over the course of three minutes close to halftime against Georgia last year? How many times did he bring up Derrick Henry being like "that train in that 90's action movie that was loaded down with nuclear weapons, you know that nucular train" in the SECCG or whatever it was?

I love Verne to death. Thank god Tebow is gone and irrelevant now, because that was the only time he truly annoyed me. Verne gets a lot of guff for "Meeves-Rayban", but this is just the ramblings of a senile old coot. Bless his heart.

Gary Danielson is a repetitious, rodent-voiced, peabrain who needs to stick to analysis and not to abstract thought.

All of these losers, Gary Danielson and Chris Doering included, that keep saying we're overhyped because we lost close games last year, are using the same flawed logic. Past results are not indicative of future results.

I cannot wait until we're 6-0 and kicking off at home against Alabama as a 3pt favorite.

Complete BS! You don't think the fans were there vs Oklahoma to "power their team through a close game"?? Complete crap. Even the Sooners said it was the loudest environment they'd ever played in. The atmosphere was crazy and the fans more than held up their end of the bargain. It was the players and coaches who fell short.

Same thing applies to 2014 at home vs Florida when we checkered Neyland fit the first time. It wasn't, not will it ever be this fanbase's fault for the outcome of the game one way or the other.
I was thinking the exact same thing. I remember reading similar statements from the Oklahoma team, stating that the noise they felt at Neyland that night was the most intimidating that they've ever heard

Let's remember that Danielson has watched the Vols lose football games, and play crappy football, for the most part, for roughly 10 years.

too bad he wasn't a better analytic when he played - threw more INT than TD's over his college and NFL careers. A less than average QB; he should know something about playing poorly....that's for sure.

Heck, it was my teams stadium and I was intimidated! It was loud, severely loud, from kickoff to on into the 4th qrt. I'm sure on the field for Okl it was very intimidating.

Fans do have an affect on teams/players. That's one reason why it's so hard to win on the road BUT its talent and good coaching that over rides the crowd IMO.

The fans will not win or lose the game for a team. Not being coached well enough to overcome crowd noise or just being out-talented will be the reason for the loss IMO.

That's why you cheer as loud as you can when your team is on D, in hopes the opponent has not been prepared properly to execute in hostile conditions.

It also adds juice to players when their down and tired or pulls the opposition down that much more.

It's a moot point cause this fanbase is prob THE hungriest fanbase in the nation. Look at how many threads have to do with "I can't wait till we are back." correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't there an article sometime in the spring about the hungriest fanbases and we were in the top?

This staff is finally ready to contend
This team is elite
This fanbase is rabid

WE ARE READY!

If fans do not impact tight games - then there is no need for us to show up in the first place, is there?

It's entertainment. We are there to watch and if so moved, yell loudly. However, we, as individuals have no impact on the outcome of the game.

KY has a better chance of winning the east than Mizzou. They'll more than likely end up last in the division.

Then I think we should all sell our tickets to the Florida game to Florida fans and the ones to the Alabama game to Alabama fans. After all there is no 'home field' advantage to be had by having the stands full of Tennessee fans.

I do think the atmosphere caused by fan participation can influence the opponent and the "we believe in you and have your back" support can give needed confidence to a team. Just like the constant complaints and criticism of players can cause loss of confidence. There is a metal aspect to the team and fans that can become self serving.
