As for how fans can impact games.....I guess I'm the only one, but I sure as heck think it happens.

I have been in stadiums, and yes Neyland is one of them, where a play happened and it sucked the momentum and life out of the opponent, the crowd, everything. The game was over without being over.

In 2003, when fireronzook.com went into high gear, Florida had a 3 game stretch where they played away from home beating all ranked opponents (eventual National Champion LSU, Arkansas, and Georgia). Members of the team admitted that part of the reason for the success was getting away from Gainesville and all of the "noise in the system". They were able to go on the road, focus, and come together as a team.

So, yeah, does the mood on campus and in the stadium have an effect on the team? You bet it does.

Maybe it shouldn't be that way. But, IMO, it is.

I don't think the mizzou game was really that close. Once Ut went up by 3 scores at 16-0 I felt the game was over. UT did win a 2nd close game though against SC.

That's the cold hard honest truth. We haven't beaten them at thier high point and screwed the pooch at thier lowest. Coming off a SECE crown you have to be suspect until they win.

Missouri plays at Tennessee ,at LSU at Florida , at West Virginia and have Arkansas at home along with Georgia- a Missouri might win 2 conference games and one of them will not be Tennessee , the other will definitely not be anyone above. Dopey prediction from someone who is on his way out. Sounds like Chris Doerning picking Florida just now on SEC network. No rational explaination.

He made his feelings know during the games last year and to be honest...it's hard to argue with him. Butch does get crazy up tight. We've won games that never should have even been close. No need to list it all but he's right...our biggest question mark is will Butch keep the peddle down. The only part of his comments that don't make sense are the ones regarding our fan base. That's has nothing to do with us winning or losing the close games. But everything else is true

A crowd can certainly give a team energy. But to say that a fanbase "isn't ready to win" or has been detrimental to their team winning....that's utterly ridiculous. The credit or the blame for wins and losses falls solely and squarely on the shoulders of the coaches and players...period.

The fans don't play the game. On that note, I know with 100% certainty I'm ready to see them win the close ones. So screw you Gary.

All true, KB. I don't know what these guys are thinking. There's a very good reason Neyland's rated as one of CFB's loudest and toughest-for-opponents-to-win-in stadiums...year after year after year, so Danielson's apparently just regurgitating dislike for the Vols; including our fan base. Our crowd's one of the best. As for the coaches and players losing those close ones in the past: Butch has been attacking the learning curve for P5 football, and he's doing a remarkable job. Learning curves don't just hit a point where a person can say "OK. I'm done. I know everything now." Team depth,talent, culture and overall vernacular was being developed in those first three years. Now the fruit's ripe. With team 120, UT's got an unusually cohesive and outrageously fast and athletic group of young men who've, for the most part, come from championship programs and have (again for the most part) displayed a great deal of character and maturity. Remember, these veterans have a lot of big games behind them. They're itching to kick those embarrassing skeletons out the door; ready to take on the world. It appears that Danielson's not up to speed on this particular team...yet...so I'll just write off his statement which portrays this group as being similar to the last three. It's not. As for his crush on Mizzou. Pinkel's gone. He was the heart and soul of that once little-team-that-could. I don't think it can anymore. I have a lot of great trips planned for this coming fall and winter, including a week with my wife and family in Belize, but by far and away, my biggest excitements's going to be my trip to Knoxville to watch our Vols whip the gayuduhs. Let's pay attention to ol' Gary's comments as we're rushing the field on September 24th.

This fanbase is ready and anybody at the games could be able to tell when their ears were ringing the next day but that still does not win or lose a game. It just helps juice the players when they are tired/down.

KB I watched T-Rob whoop Auburn and BO! Great game my friend. I've seen that game before a long time ago watching Tim M and forgot who the QB was till tonight when I watched it. The pass he threw after Barn fumbled the pitch, on the very next play to TM was sugar sweet. Gona watch some more of him.

The good news in this interview is that Verne stated that "it looks very likely that Ty Shuttle will be back and 100% by the opener".

Missori will be 2 and 4 after their first 6 games losing to West Virginia , LSU & Florida on the road and losing to Georgia at home. Then the rest of season they lose to UT & USCe on road and Arky at home.
They finish 5 and 7 just like last year book it. Their QB could only be good if they had the best OL in the SEC. He is about as mobile as Matt Simms was.
