Daniel Lincoln (merged)

:unsure:I was pondering guys could we of hiked the ball back another 5 yards or so to give him the clearance he obviously needed w/ his bad quad. Is it like a free throw shot in basketball where the player can back as far away from the line as he wants because he is more confortable shooting it there? Sure it would of made the kick technically tougher because its a longer kick but at least it would of gotten up in the air better before it approached the D-line....... So is this legal to do?

I'm pretty sure it is, but if he came up 5 yards short from 47, I doubt he'd do any better from 49

It is legal. The only problem is the blocking scheme and formation is set up to cover for the distance the kicker and holder set up, so the outside rushers have a difficult angle when trying to block the kick. They have to time the snap count perfectly and the kicker has to be slow. If you line up deeper, outside rushers come untouched and at an angle that increases the probability of a blocked kick. At normal distance, when the kicker steps up to kick, there is a cone of space that is available if everyone on the line steps down on their blocks and seals the inside. It's the kickers job to get the ball up quickly, within 1.5 secs. with instant elevation. The snap, hold and kick all have to be perfect. If you think it is easy, try it some time...because it isn't. Three components have to be right every time, and the kicker's mechanics have to be almost perfect and they have to kick the ball no matter what the other two components attempt is like. Those three guys, snapper, holder, and kicker have to be best friends.

I will be generous and give one of the blocked field goals to the linemen, Lincoln still left 6 points on the field in a game we lost by 2

If I'm not mistaking, we kicked 4 field goals in that game. The first one he made. The second one he missed and the last two were blocked. Maybe I missed one. Like I said, it's not all his fault. However, the one before half should have been made. With that said, you can't say that the game would have been the same score if he would have made that field goal going into halftime. Obviously if he would have made that, we would have won by the total score of the game. Bama had one drive that they got 9 yars on first down and were on the 4. 2nd and 3rd they threw two incomplete passes after running all over our defense to that point. Why they didn't give one of those downs a run is beyond me and everyone else in that stadium. Either way, we played a hell of a game and our ST's has been horrible all year........and it didn't change yesterday.

For the love of God can we please replace this kid with someone else? I mean anyone, lets have tryouts with students or anything. The kid is never consistent and has had the two worst years I have ever seen a Vol kicker have. I want to personally congratulate him on never getting the ball over five feet off the ground. He was Bama's MVP and the kid also cant kick a 45 yard field goal so why is he playing in the sec?

Dude there are seriously better kickers going to class at UT right now. Lincoln is absolute trash. I hope he is happy with costing us another victory Saturday. I cant remember all the games that cocky **** has cost us now.

Good idea, since they havent practiced at that, might be a low snap though :ermm:

Another game? Let me guess, you're talking about Auburn. You must believe if he had hit the field goal earlier in the game, Auburn would have still played soft enough to let us drive the field at the end of the game and set up a game winning extra point. It's not as simple as taking the final score and adding all the missed opportunities to arrive at a hypothetical final score. Earlier points would change strategies which would almost certainly change the "happenings" on the field.

The miss on the 47 yard kick was all Lincoln. The first block would have hit a lineman in the back of the head, and the last one was poor blocking.

Get off his D.

I really hope that doesn't mean what it sounds like.

I'm not trying to say our kicker is something he isn't. I'm saying that Lane Kiffin should have been aware enough of our problems in the kicking game to make better use, or at least some use, any use, of the 48 seconds that remained after Stocker's catch.

Back off Lincoln he is a good kid. My in-laws are friends with his family they live in the same neighborhood. They are great people and he is a great kid. So he has had some bad kicks, who doesn’t? When JC was stinking you all defended him and said CLK knows what’s best for the team. Well he misses 1 and had 2 blocked, so what. That’s the way it is so stop pointing fingers and start supporting the team. I used to call for JC’s head but realized he’s doing the best he can do. Lincoln had a hurt leg, let’s see you do better with a good leg.

Lets support them no matter what, GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO VOLS.

I don't care how good of a person he is - I'm sure he is - but he's not a good kicker. I know I couldn't have done better but I'm not getting a scholarship to kick either. The rest of the team put forth a monumental effort against the cheatin' tide. 1 out of 4 in the biggest game of the year simply doesn't cut it.

A question, is Ethan Ingam still around? He walked on last year. I watched him make a couple from 50+ in HS. If we can play a couple of walk ons on the o-line, why not give a walk on kicker a shot?

Because lincoln's a "good kid" he should keep his job after blowing field goals that cost UT the game???

Gaaaaaah what are you guys five years old? This thread is a pathetic fail. I'm ashamed I read any of it. Ya'll should be ashamed.

no there really aren't. We heard the same said about Crompton when he was struggling too

Dude couldn't kick a 45 yard field goal. I went to high school with kids that could do that. This kid has consistently lost games for us and is not a Div. I kicker. Im tired of the game being on the line and this guy screwing things up. I mean all he does is kick, he should be way more consistent than he is.

I could do it too but never tried with the Bama game on the line and a 6'5 350lb man running at me. There's a reason he's on scholarship and the others are wearing their HS letter jackets to class

You make a good point Sir. And you are right he must be on scholarship for one reason or another but to be a kicker one must have ice in their veins. This kid just cant handle pressure and is also not doing the little things in kicking. The first thing he needs to learn is being able to get the ball up, he is consistently kicking the ball low.
