Daniel Lincoln (merged)

IF lincoln has a significant injury that affects his trajectory and distance, and

IF cunningham does not have the accuracy, then

why doesn't CLK use the remaining 38 seconds or so to try to get the ball closer? with a capable kicker he made absolutely the right call, as a penalty, sack, or turnover with no timeouts left loses the game. but with a guy who is very iffy past the 40 ...

Exactly. This is what I've been saying.
Can we start calling everybody who thought running all that time off was a good idea a Kiffin-ite? :eek:lol:

You get more air off the ball, you miss a 40 yarder - not to mention once a defender gets one yard pass the line of scrimmage you can block almost any kick due to the angle. How about you don't let 40+ seconds run off the clock and get 10 more yards so the angle can be greater. Crompton was unbelievably accurate the final drive - go with the hot hand.

This.

I can't believe our coach isn't getting more of the criticism. Everybody is on the kicker. The coach should know his team. That was too much time to waste.

The miss on the 47 yard kick was all Lincoln. The first block would have hit a lineman in the back of the head, and the last one was poor blocking.

Get off his D.

Now we know why kickers are the most hated guys in football. They don't have to practice like everyone else and then they go out and miss FGs...All they have to do is kick...if I did nothing but kick for three hours a day at practice, I think I could hit FGs...time to have halftime contest, I'm goin' to start practicing right now...

Keep us updated on your progress. An injured leg for kicker is equivalent to an injured throwing arm for a pitcher. He was put on the field and did the best he could; if you don't think an injured kicker should be on the field, email Kiffin.

Kiffin said after the game, Lincoln had a quadicep injury he hasn't fully recovered from. That's why his kicks haven't had the distance or height.

I personally think Kiffin is covering for his player a little....He always talks about having each others back...You hear the players say it alot...If Kiffin thought he was too badly hurt, he never would have sent him out there for that 47 yarder...He had enough confidence in his kicker...He even said they got 5 yards closer than Lincoln thought he needed on that last drive..I think the quad thing is a little bit of a diversion.....

Is there no such animal as a back-up kicker? In case of a "serious" injury what would we do?

That's been handled.
In a big way. Some of my friends here who don't like Kiffin were giving me a hard time yesterday saying, "so is Kiffin going to try to recruit a kicker now?" At least I can say the top kicker already committed.

He can, he just didn't.

This is where getting Palardy will be huge. But letting Cody get through the line so easily on the last kick is inexcusable; I don't care how big Cody is.

Agreed.............Kiffin needs to make sure we concentrate on getting the biggest, meanest and ugliest OL recruits in the nation......hell, rent a FLEET of helicopters! How about fly in like "Fan Man" did during the rumble in the jungle....I don't care.

Well, this seems like the most appropirate thread to put this in. My first casualty in the Kiffin era was the ceiling light fixture/ fan in my bedroom. Happened on the last kick or lack thereof.

Better than being there live and having a horde of Bama fans screaming Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer in your ear. How bad did it get messed up?

He's had two do or die kicks in his career. He shanked one as if he'd never kicked before at UCLA and hit Cody in the armpit with the other. That's his legacy at UT. Period.

not that i disagree, but he certainly had a third in 07 vs usc. he nailed that one.

3 missed, 2 blocked- We win with a kicker worth a damn.

Oh well, come on down Palardy.

For the record, those "blocked" should just be called "misses". Any time a lineman blocks a kick, it is ALWAYS the kicker's fault.

Lincoln is an average kicker in his talents and when his mental game is lacking he is awful. Someone compared him to Crompton which is a very bad comparison. Crompton is an NFL qb when if ever mentally right. Lincoln is on Porky. Lincoln was never good enough not when people liked him not ever. He clearly had a limit in his range which is not acceptable for a team like UT. He can hit FGs under 35 yards sure but over 35 yards he was always scary to have out there. This is not just a one game thing. Gran has to make this guy whole to finish out season. Palardy and a walk on should be on the team next year and Lincoln's scholly removed. Nothing personal just business.

The first block was on both Sullins and Lincoln. Sullins got dominated, but it still hit Cody in the armpit

The second block was all on Lincoln. The picture was in the paper this morning, and Sullins had a pretty solid block. It just hit Cody in the wrist, and would have been blocked by Julio if it got by Cody.

Plus coming up 5 yards short on a 47 yard FG is simply unacceptable.

If he was so hurt, put in Ingham or Cunningham. Ingham did solid in the preseason and Cunningham does KOs, so you could assume he has a stronger leg anyways.
