Daniel Lincoln (merged)

I guess we should have used tape. LOL

First kick we made, the announcers stated how his release would come back to haunt us as it was way too low. I guess they were right...1 missed and two blocked.

Full strength or not, there is no excuse for the stats he (special teams) had in this game.

Get a clue!
yes, the first kick was low. You do understand that it was at the very limit of his range?
The second kick never made it to the line of scrimmage as the D was 2 yards in our backfield. No kick would have made it past that rush.

Had we gotten any penetration, both of Alabama's long FGs would have been blocked as they were both low.

I hope you understand enough of basic physics to understand "putting some air under the ball" decreases the distance the ball will travel. Lincon doesn't have a big leg. The FG he missed at half is the reason the next one was low. He adjusted to get maximum distance. While our kicker is not good, his intellect has nothing to do with why those kicks were blocked.

Yesterday, our Coaches and Players played their hearts out. They deserved better than what they received from our kicker.

Those two so called blocked kicks, were not blocks at all. If you go back and watch the tape, the 1st kick hit Cody in the gut, and the 2nd kick was barely 6' off the ground when it got to the line of scrimmage. Yes there was penetration, but dang. Get some air under the ball.

This is another example of how poor our talent had gotten under CPF.

I am proud of this team. They took Bama to the brink and came up one Idiot Kicker short!

Our kicker is not a idiot. He is a young man playing football for Tenn. Now I have seen some idiot posters.

While I can't confirm any of this, word on the street in Ktown is Lincoln hurt his leg during warm ups at a game early in the year trying to stretch his range to 60 yds. Shortly afterward, Cunningham was asked to be ready for FGs but wasn't used because of inaccuracy. So, as far as the kicker position goes, I think we have what we have. I think CLK understands he's rolling the dice with Lincoln, but usually in these situations, we've already exhausted all other options.

IF lincoln has a significant injury that affects his trajectory and distance, and

IF cunningham does not have the accuracy, then

why doesn't CLK use the remaining 38 seconds or so to try to get the ball closer? with a capable kicker he made absolutely the right call, as a penalty, sack, or turnover with no timeouts left loses the game. but with a guy who is very iffy past the 40 ...

Seems folks are changing their focus from the QB to the kicker. It's going to be a bumby ride for Lincoln.

The kicker had a quad problem according to coach. A disappointment in the loss but the kid should not be called an idiot. Kickers win games and sometimes lose them. Overall, a great showing by the vols and J Crompton. We for sure won some recruits over and probably got the attention of a great kicker out there somewhere. Lincoln may be the deciding factor in a vol win later this year. Don't trash his confidence.:moon2:

You get more air off the ball, you miss a 40 yarder - not to mention once a defender gets one yard pass the line of scrimmage you can block almost any kick due to the angle. How about you don't let 40+ seconds run off the clock and get 10 more yards so the angle can be greater. Crompton was unbelievably accurate the final drive - go with the hot hand.

I just watched the replay and analyzed both blocks as best I could. On the first block, Bammer #57 absolutely tossed Vol #69 out of the way clearing a path for Cody to get about 3 yards into the backfield. I think he blocks any trajectory from the penetration he got. The low kick made it really easy for him. On the second block, the line held them to a stalemate. No penetration. Lincoln just kicked it low right into them.

On a positive note, that onside kick was executed to perfection.

Don't blast our kids!!!! You all doing this should be banned from here....

These kids gave everything they had. That includes our kicker. No one feels worse than him. He has been injuried and is doing the very best he can. I for one am proud of the effort. I hate losing as much as anyone. But the fact is these kids deserve better than the way this board has blasted them for the last 5 or 6 years. We have alot to look forward to. Enjoy it.... It doesn't have to be like this..... Support them. They "gave their all for Tennessee today". We should do the same.....

This is just a thought I had. If the coaches had known that he was kicking them low why could they have not moved the spot back 1 or 2 yards to give the ball a chance to get up? Yes it would have been different for the center but if they had a week to practice it I dont see why they could not do it.

You so called fans are the IDIOTS. Where are you Crompton haters now? You trash our players any chance you get. You boo our team in front of prospects and lead them to go elsewhere. Some of our present players probably don't have the talent yet or have some injury problems, but IDIOTS, or slackers, they don't deserve such nonsense by armchair couch potatoes--NO! They chose to play for UT over many other teams and should be supported through the tough times.

You, sir, are the idiot. To call a 20 year old kid who did the best he could an idiot is not only idiotic, but classless. If he punched a guy and caused a huge penalty, call him an idiot. If he made some intentional mistake, call him an idiot. But Kiffin himself said the guy hasn't had the leg power since he got hurt. So he had to put them a little lower to get them to the goalpost. The first block had no chance because Cody was a couple of yards in the backfield when it was kicked. The second one may have had a chance if it went higher. But you did see the 47 yarder that he left short, right? He was only trying to get a trajectory that would make the field goal long enough.

It's fans like you that make me sick. Peyton manning, when he talked about hie "liquored up idiot kicker" wasn't talking about a guy who tried his damn hardest but came up short - he was talking about a guy who was talking bad about the team on a national TV show. get your facts straight.

You, sir, are the idiot. I hope you grow up someday.

I don't understand why if we knew he still wasn't 100%, he had missed a 47 yarder earlier, and had another one blocked... why did we put the game on his/the kicking unit's shoulders?

Good points...as well there are some suggestions that Lincoln had some degree of a leg injury, if so, his range is further limited. Sad day for him, but one that he may not been able to change if given another try.

And your alternative would have been?

Pretty sure when Lane looked into the play jar with 4 sec left, there was only one play left...Field Goal Try.

What is unclear to me.....is there not another kicked on the squad to take over if Lincoln is hurt?

No way would I ever call a young man that if a Vol an idiot....perhaps a so called Vol fan might earn that title for doing it though. We are all disappointed and I am sure that no one can come close to knowing how this will effect Lincoln. Our great coaches will work on this. Again, we are all disappointed....but how in the world does a UT fan call a UT player an idiot. I am sure he hurts more than anyone.

But Lincoln, who had a pair of field goals blocked by Alabama's massive nose guard Terrence Cody in the second half, wasn't on the excuses end of his performance in a 12-10 loss to No. 1 Alabama.

He didn't take the bait when asked about a gamey quadriceps muscle in his right leg, one that he reinjured before the game. He didn't point fingers at his protection even after Cody got his fingers on two kicks.

As he's done before, Lincoln faced the music and took the blame, even if it wasn't entirely his to shoulder.

"It hurts," he said. "It hurts me personally. It hurts this team. I'm proud of my teammates. I'm proud to be a part of this organization, this program that put us in this position to come down to Tuscaloosa and play the game we played. But yeah, it hurts."

The same could be said for that quadriceps muscle, which Lincoln said felt about 90 percent before he tweaked it again during pregame warm-ups.

"But you don't feel anything when you go out in front of 95,000 people," he said. "Whether it affected me physically or not, that's up to our medical staff to determine when we get back and I get assessed (Sunday) afternoon. I don't have any excuses about an injury or anything like that. I control what I can control and leave the rest up to God."

What Lincoln didn't say, UT coach Lane Kiffin did.

"He's not quite looked the same in practice since (the injury)," Kiffin said. "He hasn't seemed to have as much power. But we can't allow as much penetration up front."

looks like our kicker is a bigger man than you are...
