Daniel Bituli interview

He needs to be on the field! Kirkland is athletic enough to play outside LB and move Bituli to MLB. He's a better option than most of the others we have, unless some major changes has taken place.

Exactly.

But knowing how stupid of a coach Butch Jones is, he'll continue to play scrubs like McDowell and Jumper ahead of a future NFL starter like Bituli.

Bad personnel decisions are just Butch's M.O.

OR, like the article says, as a freshman, he was challenged with the mental side of the game, and assume coaches recognized that. To use Jumper as example, we all remember how he was always out of position, early in his career. And, though not necessarily NFL caliber, think many realize Jumper was a solid contributor LY, and will be a solid senior contributor/leader TY. It sounds like Bituli will be on the field.

Many people want to determine starting mlb based just on physicality. You may be correct but thinking is incomplete. The mlb has to be the brains of the defense, knowing where every one is supposed to be lined up. I don't know where UT gets these smart guys , but Kirkland is one of them (he's even got photographic memory). He has the abilities in physicality and mentally and that is why he'll always be your starter at mlb.

Hopefully the new coaches along with giving shoop the reins on defense we will be ok. Jones is in over his head at the SEC level imo. He is more of a mid majors coach.

If McDowell didn't have that nasty concussion, I doubt you would be saying that. He started out ok and was getting better. Don't forget what a monster he has been on special teams too.

QB of the Defense and that is why Kirkland is great for that position.

Brilliant!! he looks great in the interview so he has to start. Why watch them practice if you are going to make personnel decisions base upon interviews and what a guy looks like?

Name some. Besides Kamara not being utilized enough. Which is debatable, because he didnt seem to be very durable

Hurd, Worley, Peterman, Jack Jones, the whole Jumper Fiasco, Martin, Mosely, and many others. That doesn't include his developmental miscues of the whole Oline, TKjr, almost the whole secondary.

I don't agree with the personnel misuse. Butch doesn't pick the starters in a dark room by himself, these are staff decisions. Perhaps with one exception.

The coaches have to consider down side issues with the upside. Fans get to live on the upside alone.

Just because a player does well when he gets an opportunity doesn't mean he was the best at that position all along. You have to remember the younger guys improve at a faster rate then the older guys.

I don't believe Dobbs was the best QB in game 1 that season. By the time he got his opportunity, yes. Kamara was not better than Hurd in his first year here. The same could be said about others.

No doubt there was somebody calling for CFA to get some playing time before the SC game. Oops down side. And one day soon we'll be talking about how great CFA is and how under utilized he was.

If your not watching practice, you have no way to know the players down side issues.

I'll never understand how you guys can believe coaches would play anyone other than who they think gives us the best chance to win; after all, their jobs depend on getting W's

Couldnt have said it any better. Fans only see the final results.

Should've had Kirkland Jr. in the lineup earlier his freshman season. I don't care if he didn't understand the playbook as well as Jumper, I always felt that his athleticism would've more than made up for it.

But other than that, you're right. For the most part CBJ has gotten the personnel right.
