There's some smoke to the stuff with him and Stricklin. His buyout (if he left for another college job) is very little. He ain't coming here though....

It is Sunday. Where’s the announcement? NSD is less than a month away and our current roster is escaping.

Never forgave Dickey for that move.

Same here, didn't want him as AD because of that. But he did save our tails in the Jack Sells fiasco. NCAA had us and Dickey got us out with a no penalty probation. Friend of mine inside the Athletic Dept said he must have had pictures of NCAA enforcement staff in bed with underage boys. No other reason we should have escaped that.

I remember being a kid @ one of the 1st games where I was old enough to be tuned in and know what was going on. Probably 1987 , lets say the Cal. game. At the half they introduced ADDD for whatever reason and a substantial amount of people started booing. I asked my grandfather why and he explained the whole Dickey “going home to Florida “ thing. As the years progressed the booing continued right up until the end although not near as many people booing towards the end of his tenure lol.

This is just a wild as* hypothetical, but what if Dan Mullen is wanting out of Florida so bad that he would come to Tennessee? Doug Dickey did it to Tennessee. Idk that would be amazing.
Seems the NFL is his ideal landing spot. The show cause would make it difficult for him to move around the NCAA.

He doesn’t, yet. If he did, he’d already be gone.

I do think there was some friction between Mullen and some in the UF Administration, most notably the President, because they found it extremely embarrassing and politically incorrect when Mullen went through the whole “pack the stadium” stuff after the aTm game. And I think even in those private discussions, Mullen held his ground. Then, barely a few days later, Mullen and about a third of the team came down with covid. So just an overall strange sequence of events for a period of a couple of weeks. And generally, Mullen was wound really tight this entire year, as were a lot of coaches.

But, I don’t think it’s quite at a point where Mullen would walk. And even if it was, his departure path will be to the NFL, not to another College job, and certainly not to an SEC East rival. By the way, I expect Mullen to try the NFL at some point. Only question is when. I’m hoping UF gets another 5-6 years out of him.

I think his beef is more with President Fuhcs (spelled incorrectly because the system thinks I’m trying to say the “f” word) than Stricklin. I think Stricklin is more the guy stuck in the middle between the two. Fuhcs is a nut job liberal wacko, you know the type. But agree, there’s smoke there.

Dickey played at UF so it was likely his dream job to go back there at coach. Kiffin, who never played at USC and only stayed for one year, is still loved by many. It's weird how people still hold a grudge against Dickey for that.

I wonder if Pitt felt that way toward Johnny?

Dan is a good coach I would def take him here, but he’s kinda a weird and odd dude too with what seems like a hard to work with personality at times if your a AD. It wouldn’t surprise me if he went to the NFL I don’t see him being at Florida longer than 5 seasons he’s still a relatively young guy too at 48.

From what I've heard (from MSU people), Stricklin and Mullen coexisted. Mullen can be a little difficult to deal with but Stricklin obviously knew Mullen was a little too good for Starkville. Supposedly Stricklin was a little slow with extensions and the contract rollovers (MS has law limiting contracts to 4 years).

I think the Cowboys interest last offseason and the Jets stuff this offseason are just ploys from Mullen to get the extension taken care of. Mullen is probably a little professionally hurt that he was Stricklin's 3rd choice back in 2017 and Mullen is probably looking for a bit of a payday since Sexton couldnt get us and you all into a bidding war in 2017. I would assume Mullen might feel a little misled because an extension isnt done.

Let's assume there's no NFL interest this offseason and the extension isnt taken care of, does Mullen jump after next season? Does PSU or Oklahoma come open? Does LSU or Michigan come open? Does he take a step down and go to UT? Mullen doesnt have the leaverage now but by September, he will have it.
