There's some good conversation about Mullen in the Mullen vs frost thread.....

MSU has 12 bowl wins, in 20 appearances in it's entire history....

Mullen has led MSU to 7 of those 20 appearances, consecutively, and has 5 of the wins, including a Gator bowl win over Michigan and an Orange bowl appearance in 2014/15.

MSU has only finished ranked in the AP i think 20 times in their entire history, and had NONE between 2000 and 2010.

Mullen has had 2 ranked finishes since 2010, and is looking for a 3rd this year.

they've only finished ranked in the coaches poll 7 times in their entire history, and Mullen has 2.

no one is saying that this guy is the next nick saban...or even the next Phil Fulmer.

but this notion that he's hot garbage that some of you are perpetrating is just plain false.

and he's light years ahead of Butch Jones, Derek Dooley and Lane Kiffin as a head coach.

Well if you watched the game you would notice that the deeper bench of Alabama came into play in the 4th quarter and lack of depth by MSSt allowed bama to wear them down and eek out that win. But you can call it a choke if a huge underdog comes up a tad short.

Kind of like how the lack of Depth on Defense has meant that Tennessee gives up a boat load more points in the 2nd half after their offense leaves them high and dry.

Mullen is the best hire we can make. People just want Gruden so bad that they don't see it. I can't think of a better/safer higher than Mullen. I'd say he turns us around in about 2 years.

Sign me up for Mullen. I'll take Gruden as well due to the excitement it will generate. But, going for a guy with SEC experience and a vastly improved record compared to previous MSU coaches is a strong argument.

It’s not mediocrity to win 9 games 4 times at a school where it had only been done 5 times in the history of the program before.

Want to know what mediocrity is? Only making the playoffs 5 times out of 11 years and winning a SB only because the opposing QB threw 2 pick 6s.

He turned down the Florida job before. Rumor is his wife didn't like it. Also he had Prescott coming up and knew he had a chance at a special couple of years. I mean LSU wanted Prescott for TE. You win with your QB. And ours need some development and that's his specialty. As the article states, there are no sure bets...but he and Patterson are probably the least risky hires. Let me ask you, if you're Currie and you are pinning you career to this hire, you are probably thinking Kelly and Gruden are too risky.

You can't discuss what he's done without acknowledging WHERE he's done it. MSU is behind UK in facilities and is spending as much if not more on baseball.
State is just NOT a platform for recruiting. UT is. Had he been hired 5 years ago, UT would have at least two east titles, maybe more.

Please NO! Chip Kelly with all that speed to choose from down there. We should hire him just to keep that from happening.
